I am looking for a good general-use vacuum sealer. I was on the foodsaver website, and there are so many different models with different features to choose from. It will probably mainly be used for packaging meat that I can get on sale, and things of the like. Any input from users is greatly appreciated. Preferrably looking for one under $150 or so.

I use This One which costs something like $5. It works great. Its limitation is that you can't seal liquid stuff. But it works great for everything else. If your usage will be typical for a household, before shelling out $150+ for one of those fancy machines, I suggest you get one of these and give it a try.

oh yea, the ones that Gollnick posted about. Those things work great. One of the guys at work uses those. Give them a try.

I had a bunch of fish to freeze after a deep-sea trip. I just went to Sam's and bought whatever they had.
I just looked, and mine is the FoodSaver V2480. No complaints.

I have used the Ziplock brand mentioned and found that they lost the seal within 24 hours. Foodsaver now has the identical system and I am using it with the Ziplock hand pump. They work great.

I use a Foodsaver. Not sure of the model. Looks like this one.

No complaints.

Sometimes, I'll catch steaks on sale at our local butcher.
The FoodSaver makes them a lot easier to freeze and thaw. Much better quality when I thaw them.

I have a FoodSaver. I like it. It's adequet, but like my wife---i wish it sucked a little more (i mean had a little more suction) ! LOL  :D It is the V3440 model.

I may try the little one and use it in conjunction with mylar food storage bags. I wonder if they sell them at Walmart or if they're only sold online.

I have both a foodsaver and a generic version, the foodsaver was around 120 (don't remember the model) and the generic was around 50. All I can say is that the foodsaver does work a whole lot better. It has more suction to is and for some reason, the generic one fails to seal about half the time or when I go to get the package from the freezer it is no longer vacuum sealed. I bought a bulk pack of the bags from costco and they will last me a few years.

Costco usually has a nice Foodsaver for around $100-120. If you have a membership, try it out and see what you think. We have whatever one they stocked last year and it is not bad. My biggest complaint is that the bags are not resealable, which is nice for stuff like cheeses and slab bacon. Other than that, it does what it should. Bags have never lost their seal and it has good suction.

I tried the Ziploc one and it didn't do it for me. I found the seals failing more often than I would like. Reynolds use to make one that was fickle, but was awesome once you got used to it. The bags were resealable and relatively cheap. They discontinued it because of poor sales, so, last time I checked, the bags were going for several dollars each on ebay.
