I've seen several watch threads lately. I didn't want to hijack someone elses thread so here goes. I am looking for a watch that Does Not use a battery. Wind up or self winding only. I want one which is water resistant and tough, as I am rough on my watches. Recomendations????

Seiko automatic (Diver's 200m), waterproof to 200 m. Good movement, with a reputation of going 15-20 years before needing servicing.

You stated you wanted an auto, tough and water resistant but you didnt state a budget, there is a hugh range of watches which meet your criteria. Plus, are you looking for dress, casual or even taticool, this info will help people point you in the right direction.

I am not looking for dressy or tacticool. A good sturdy watch for every day wear. Not wanting to break the bank. I have been wearing a Timex Expedition for years so I have no idea what other watches are running now. I am just starting to look.

A few months ago I bought a Seiko Kinetic dive watch. Water resistant to 200 meters. Rotating bezel.
It's electric, but doesn't need a battery. It has a pendulum in it like an automatic (self-winding) mechanical movement. But, when the pendulum moves, instead of winding a mechanical movement, it spins a tiny generator that charges a capacitor. Accuracy of a quartz, and no need to replace a battery. Specs say it is accurate to +/- 15 seconds a month. Mine is more accurate than that.
I haven't had it long enough to give you a long term review, but I'm extremely pleased with it.

This is what you want. I wore one 24/7 during my tour in Iraq 03-04.

Sorry, Didn't mean to spam. New here just trying to help. Again check out Bernhardt Watches. They are really well made. I have no affiliation just a watch enthusiast.

There is also a forum called pmwf.com (Poor Mans Watch Forum). Check it out. There is a bunch of great info available over there and the members are very helpful. Especially to people who are new to watch collecting. The forum is right up your alley, as their demographic is watches under 1k.

Your best bet is to stick with the well proven quality models mentioned already. Seiko Kinetic or Citizen eco-drive.

For true automatics the Seiko divers are hard to beat. Citizen also makes some nice auto divers as does Orient.

None of them will break the bank.

Citizen Eco drive = quartz accuracy , but solar powered= no battery

This is an incredible watch for the money.

Quartz, no battery, will run for 6 months without any light, charges in hours. Perfect.
Available in steel or titanium.

+1 on Citizen Eco-Drive. I've had them for years and they're reliable, accurate, low maintenance and great value for money. I still wear one for sports.

??? Except for the fact that that watch, and every other quartz watch does use a battery...

Hard to beat the Seiko for affordability AND quality for an everyday user. I had an Orient Mako and wore it everyday for about a year. The only problem I had with it was that the rotating bezel wasn't easy to grip. The bezel has a slight downward cant from the crystal and the coin edge wasn't grippy. I don't know if anyone else had that issue, but it was a pita for me, especially when my hands were wet. Just something to think about. I only hear good things about Seiko automatic dive watches.

I have a Seiko 200m diver and an Orient Mako. The Mako is the more refined looking watch, that is for sure. The 200 meter diver is a more usable "dive" watch. The bezel is easy to grip, and the lume on that watch is very bright when it is fully charged. I think I paid just under $200 for the Seiko, and around $100 for the Orient Mako in blue. Another dive watch I have my eye on is the Prometheus Jellyfish. They have a variety of colors and cost around $350USD. All of them seem to be sold out, and I don't know if/when they will be getting any more of them.
