hi,

i really like the emerson "wave open" gadget, but cant afford the blades :)

are you familier with any other knife makers with this feature (or similar)?

looking in particular for a nice karambit or a tanto folder (3"+ blade) like my CRKT M16-14M...

thanks for your help...

+1 on the endura and delica, I have a waved delica 4 and it's great. I believe Spyderco offers a karambit, you might want to do a search to see what users say about it; Spyderco also offers their Civilian as another hawkbill shape (though it's fully serrated). You could modify both into a wave opener by attaching a zip-tie to the spydie hole. I think you could take a look at the 5.11/Tarani and Mantis karambits, I know some bladeforums members have used them and you could do a search. I think both makers employ thumb holes, so you could do the zip-tie thing for those too.

Just remembered, I think I saw somewhere that Fox Cutlery makes a karambit with a dedicated wave feature, you might want to do a little research on that one too.

Thanks for the help guys.

Does anyone know if the CRKT M16 with "true hilt" is effective as the emerson/wave opener?

It's not. It can work, but it takes more practice and specific technique. The guard protrudes out and can catch, but it's not actually a hook designed to hold on to the lip of the pocket. The Spydercos are a good choice.

Not really. I tried on my M21-SFG model. The thing gets caught in your pocket if you carry it tip down, however it can be done. Just takes a little practice.

However, for the $100 something you'd spend on the CRKT for a pseudo-wave, you could just pick up a waved delica. ;)

the waved Delica and Endura are the less expensive way to go. obviously you SHOULD save for a real emerson, but i get that times are tough.

anything other than the Spydercos (which have the the emerson patent number on em) makes you a jerk :)

support our makers!

And remember: It's no longer called the "wave" opener (TM). It's the "Emerson" opener. Everytime you say "Wave" in the context of a knife, you have to send 25 cents to Leatherman.
