looking for a wharnecliff

Hey there guys

I'm chasing a nice little wharnecliff style slipjoint, can be single or multiple blades, but I take into account my small classic sebbie and Busse AD I think that a single blade will be sufficient.

I prefer wood scales, although bone and stag are desirable, and I like the custom look a lot, although I don't like the price.

I have reasonable money to spend (was looking at 100AUD from maul order) but I can be flexible for the right piece.

I plan on owning a custom one day but until then, I'll like some suggestions.

Thanks guys

Case has some trappers and a copperhead with a wharncliff blade. Some Schatt & Morgan whittlers are around (very small but nice). You also might find some Case Classic 55, 055 and 0055 wharncliffs in your price range.

As far as custom. Take a look at Todd Davidson's patterns. He makes a very nice knife at a price tough to beat. The knives I own (and my dad) from him greatly exceeded my expectations.

Got to agree with Bastid, the T.A. Davidson's are great, you may want to give Tim Britton a look also, he does not have a wharencliff in his line up yet, but I know it's in the works. Bob Ham is another fine maker at a very reasonable price. All of these guys are great to talk to and will go out of their way to make what you want. I know customs cost more, but for what you get in return in my opinion is a far better deal and you know who made your knife.

Try a CASE Seahorse Whittler or CASE Wharncliffe Trapper also in Mini and Tiny Trapper form. Scales are a bit lurid though...unless you choose the red ones.

Then there's a Paul Chen Sheffield folder in bonestag with stainless liners and button lock with single Wharncliffe blade. Very good quality for the money around 100 USD .About 10cms closed, maybe a bit hefty for some pockets but very pleased with mine. Not ALL Chinese knives are bollocks you know:D

Don't hesitate to buy the little Bull Dog take apart knife. That thing is an awesome little folder with 440C blades and a wonderful little whittler with a nice Wharncliff blade on it. I sure like mine.

The Bulld Dog carbon steel Seahorse whittler style folder (although they don't call it that) is also just about the exact same thing as the Case Seahorse, only with a better fit and finish based on the one I own comparing them side by side, but the best part is its carbon steel blades will flat out cut circles around that Case knife and for a cheaper price at that.

I've got a Case Wharncliffe Mini Trapper in .....Sky Blue

Fantastic knife...I can live with the scales :D

I have a couple of Todd Davison's and his quality is hard to beat. He is up there with the best.

the Seahorse whittler is a popular pattern which is inexpensive.
Case also made a series of single blade versions of different patterns a few years ago which includes a single blade wharncliff trapper.
And last but not least My personal EDC , the wharncliff copperlock in CV

No doubt! I have a Mini Trapper Wharncliffe in Green Apple scales that frankly comes across more like green algae:eek: Really nice pattern though:thumbup:

I have the Mini Trapper with Wharncliff in Amber Bone, but I'm not sure they even make this model at this time. They keep screwing with their offerings, apparently in an attempt to drive up collector interest. I'd own a Tiny and a full size if I could get them in non-gaudy bone. Had my hands on a full size with stag scales and didn't buy it; I didn't realize what I was looking at at the time... (Big knife show, lots of things to buy, etc, etc.) Still kicking myself. The worst part was it was on a "half price, show only" sale!

Case made a Copperhead with a main wharncliffe blade in CV blades and red bone blades. I picked up a couple this summer.

I like the Case Whittler

After chatting with John, he comfirmed that the blade was a good slicer, hard to
tell from photos, so I trusted him and ordered that same night, here's a shot of
how thin the edge comes down, very sharp knife,

G2, that is some great photography. The Lone Wolf ain't bad either :) JB

Thanks, just a few quick shots with the Canon G7, hand held/braced on
top of the box the knife came in, the tricky one was where I was pinching
the blade, as I had to click the shutter and then move my right hand
back to steady the knife for the shot, thanks self timer! :)

And yep John, you were right, I thought the blade was thicker edged
your chat pushed me to pull the trigger, I see that it was the last one
from New Graham Knives, and I don't see it listed on the Lone Wolf's site
but, a quick search around the net will 'net' you one I'm sure.
