So basically im looking for a midsized maybe small bag that i can fit my digital camera some firemaking supplies and maybe a little bit more on the inside, so not too big not too small. But on the side that will be on my hip i want a leather sheath for my HI CAK that is actually attached to the bag itself. Looking for a primitive looking but sturdy design. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Bunch of good bags on the market these days.

Old timey look and feel:
Finnish Gas Mask Bag
British MKIV gas mask bag (replica) the one Indiana Jones uses
Frost River Large Field Satchel or shell bag
Duluth Haversack or shell bag

Modern:
Maxpedition jumbo or fatboy
5.11 Push Pack

Good luck on your search!

Is there a price cap?

My first question as well. If you're wiling to spend more for a really high quality bag, I would look at the Bison Gear Haversack. Frost River and Duluth also offer really good options.

And if you just want a simple, classic wool satchel, for $40 the Asbell haversack is hard to beat. Do a search for "G. Fred Asbell."

If you type "Genuine French Army Bag. Leather Lined" into that auction site you'll find a pretty dandy one.
I own one of these, the tan leather version, not green leather, and its a great shoulder bag for the money.

I've begun to start favouring it over my Jumbo Versipak again.

I wouldn't write off finding these Stateside.

Wholesale surplus companies sell to dealers EVERYWHERE! That's why you folks get all the Swiss Salt & Pepper packs.

Nice one

And Congrats on 1000 posts

Not primitive looking

But

I use Timbuk2 Messenger bags, X small, and small
They seemlessly transition from the woods to town
Not an attention grabber that there is gear inside

I use an MK VII bag. (I figured if it was good enough for Indiana Jones it was good enough for me, lol) Similar to the bag Scruffuk is referring to. This is the first time I have seen the leather lined french bags though. One of those will definitely make it onto the Want List. Thanks Scruffuk!

Cheers gbv. I know Panzertroop has found these on your side of the pond. Hopefully they aren't too spendy.

The leather lining really helps keep the bags shape. It's great. The lid itself is not lined though.

I've thought about applying Greenland wax to it to fully proof if, but to be honest, I've not had any problems on that front....and it's always raining in Blighty as I'm sure you know ;)
