I've been searching and reading trying to find what I'm looking for exactly but to no avail.
I currently have a spyderco sm and a lanskey system. Ive had decent luck with the lanskey and I love the SM for touch ups.
That said I have been looking only at the kme and edge pro. The WE is out completely because i dont want that kind of money in it.
I noticed the edge pro(which is what i really want, and close to purchasing) and the delux kme set are rougly the same price.

The only knives i have are hinderers’ and les george knives. Which of coarse means thumb studs. This is mainly the only type folders im really into. Others come and go but these tend to stay.

I feel like the kme is just a dressed up lanskey, but i know the thumb studs would be no issue with the kme. However I'm concerned with the edge pro how the studs will be im the way on the edge pro.

Keep in mind ive only seen these on videos. So i dont know how exactly the machine works.

So can knives with thumb studs be effectively sharpened on the edge pro.

Thanks in advance for any and all help/advice

The main issue for me is to place a knife with a thumbstud on the stage consistently for both sides of the blade.

Umnumzaan is fine in this regard because it has dual thumbrugs.
Sebenza is a bit troublesome, as mine has a single thumbrug. I have to be careful in putting the knife on the stage when I sharpen the lock side. If I place it wrong, the sharpening angles would be different between the show and lock sides.

Another potential issue may occur if you want to lower the sharpening angle. If a thumbstud is not well behind the edge toward the handle, a sharpening stone may hit it. This happened to me when I reprofiled my Southard Tolk.

Still I can sharpen them and have had good results.
Hope this helps.

I mainly try to stick to 40 degrees inclusive.

Does the thumb stud hang off to the side but butted up to the table?

Thanks for the help

That angle should be fine for most of knives. I was trying to go down to 24 inclusive.
Yes. The thumb stud is pushed against the table from the side.

Also, I should mention that it is tricky to set an angle for a hollow ground knife. The sharpening angle is determined by the set angle of the arm, how far the edge sticks out from the table, and the angle made by the blade primary grind. For hollow ground knives (without much flat area near the spine), the last part could vary a lot depending on how you place and hold them on the table. You need to be consistent in this during a session and among different sharpening sessions.

Clamp systems like KME might be easier in this aspect (I have DMT Aligner).

Do you prefer one over the other?

I mostly use Edge Pro, since there are a variety of third party stones like diamond, CBN, and silicon carbide available for experimenting. Also, you can use any sandpaper or lapping films if you want. The issues I brought up above can be remedied with just little carefulness.

If I have to replace it, I would probably buy either Edge Pro again or Hapstone, which is a similar system.

I use my DMT Aligner just as a travel sharpening kit.

Just received the Hapstone V7 and I cant for the life of me find one reason someone would pay for an EP unit. It does everything the Edge Pro PROFESSIONAL series does, and more.

What do you like better about the hapstone? I see thereis about a 15$ price differense
