i was wondering if any members had experiance with this knife and could answer some questions i have.
-How wel the blade is attached to the handle
-How wel the edge holds and sharpens
-How practical it is
-I've concerns about the balance
-Anything of interest

Thank you

I'd go with a Chris Reeves one piece. It's made from one piece of steel and very strong.

Several years ago i owned the Aitor Buccaneer, and although i found it to be reasonably tough, i sold it because it would not hold an edge and the balance simply wasn't there.
Too much of clumsy lump of steel.

I later discovered the Chris Reeve One-Piece series, and to this day i think he is the master of this concept.
Flawless one-piece construction in tough A2 steel that holds an edge and can be sharpened without too much effort in the field.

I am aware of the Chris Reeve One-Piece series however i dont like the design of the cylindrical handle and the "commando" is the only hollow handled knife that ive found with a good looking handle and i also dont have a large amount of money to spend.

Nathan, I have a suggestion for you to consider. Why not choose the best knife for your needs and your budget, and then put your survival supplies in a pouch attached to the knife's sheath or in a separate pouch on your belt? If you do it this way you will be able to choose a much stronger knife with a handle that feels better in your hand, and you can easily carry a much more complete kit with you. Personally, I don't think hollow handle "survival knives" are a very good idea. Let's face it, there really isn't room in the handle of a knife to put much in the way of survival equipment and supplies. But if you insist on having a hollow handle knife and still need to stay in the modest price range, look into the Bushman knife sold by Cold Steel. It's a great knife for not much money (about $20 US + S&H). Although it does have a round handle, it has a taper to it that makes it relatively comfortable to hold and use effectively. I ignored this model for several years, then bought myself two of them on Cold Steel's Christmas sale last year and now I really like them.

I alredy own some very practical knives which i take on my camping trips and i just carry my survival gear in a pouch. I know that hollow handled knives seem "gimickey" and they may not be very practical however as a knife enthusiast i am only a beginer and wish to experiment. however i apreciate your comments.

Hi Nathan, You may want to post this in "Wilderness & Survival" as there is more traffic along this line of thinking.

I have an interest in this myself. I don't have much interest in Rambo knives but there is some merit to them I believe. One of the best "cheap" ones I've used was an "Explorer Wilderness" that my Dad picked up years ago for $25. It holds an edge pretty well but the blade has a saw back thats nearly pointless.
There are some really nice customs available, most have round handles, one that I think is a great idea is made by Bill Sanders who seems to be a great guy.

Here's a link. Nate

Welcome aboard! the Cold Steel Bushman is a good quality low-priced knife. Otherwise, Chris Reeve all the way.
