I'm thinking of getting my first Randall. I'm looking at the Model 11 Alaskan Skinner. I plan on using it for hunting Whitetail deer, mostly. I would appreciate any advice, especially about blade length and handle material. If any one has pics comparing the different Mod 11 blade lengths that would be great. Thanks.

Steve,

They come in a non-catalog 3-1/4" version, and catalog versions of 4", 4.5", and 5" lengths. I've owned all, and found the 4.5" version the easiest to carry. Almost all of RMK's handle materials are available for this model, with other options such as handle shape, lanyard, etc. available as well. Your needs will likely drive your choices, but the RMK catalog is always a good place to start. A free catalog can be requested at http://www.randallknives.com

Good luck, hope that helps,

Shel

Shel,

Thanks for the reply. I need to decide on the blade size, probably go with 3-1/4 best for cleaning/ dressing deer. That reminds me, would the stag grips hold up to that mess? I understand this was the original idea for this knife, but I have no experience with stag grips.

I do think Stag with finger grooves is the ultimate RMK hunter/ skinner look.

Thanks for your help.

Stag with finger grooves do look good especially on a #3 . But when dressing a deer I use my knife upside down or edge up a lot so I personally don't like them on a skinner -
