Looking for an affordable fixed blade EDC

Hey gentlemen,
I've been lurking and learning for a while and have found nothing but great stuff on here. I've recently found myself in the market for a small fixed blade EDC, and thought your advice worth a first post.

I work in a bar, and use my knife for everything from opening boxes to (after proper washing of course) prepping garnish. I would also like the knife to be somewhat capable in a camp/bushcrafting setting. I've been looking at the bk 11 - I already have the 9 and the remora, which is a little too small for my grip - because I like how much blade you get for the grip length. Ideally though I'm looking for something scandi or flat ground with a blade under 2.5-3 in small enough to wear horizontally discreetly. I've heard good things about the izula but honestly they don't really appeal to me.

Have at it boys, and thanks!

Check out a Spyderco Street Beat. It's everything you described you want

Ramzar, thanks that's a great thread. I actually think it was one of the ones that prompted me to ask this: a lot of the same names kept coming up and I was hoping you guys would have more specific ideas. I love the look if those bark river knives, but alas they're just too pricy for me right now

Ajack, the streetbeat also looks great (if maybe with a slightly overly aggressive choil), but again affordability is still a key component.
Thanks for the responses so far!

How much are you looking to spend?

Kelley of Hardedgeknives regularly has no frills blades available in the exchange section. His last set of Paracord EDCs sold for $47 each shipped with kydex sheath.

KP513, guess we think in similar ways.

I'm willing to go up to the $75 range but would prefer to keep it under 50. Those Kelley ward blades looked great, I'll have to check out his work! Thanks for the recomendation! Do th know if he makes scales for his knives as well?

Kelley does do scales, though they do get more expensive than his twine/paracord knives. I would recommend searching 'hardedgeknives' to see the whole range of things hes put out recently, or better yet contact the man himself.

At your price range I would say the Izula II is the way to go. If you had more of a budget I would tell you to seriously look at the Fletcher Knives Pro 6-5. In my opinion it is the perfect sized EDC fixed blade. That and the sheath make it a perfect fit for you.

The Fletcher is pretty close to perfect ... except for the price unfortunately. I've been trolling the vendors boards and finding a lot of good stuff. Now to catch one in time....

Affordable fixed blade? Going out on a limb, but have a look at the Buck Paklite's. Carry mine daily, feel great in the hand, sharp as heck, and lifetime warranty for under $30 bucks? Can't go wrong....

Boker Plus has a couple of Tom Krein designed small FBs in your price range. They're 440C (a respectable SS) and IIRC, they can be carried horizontally. Also, A G Russell has a couple of smaller FBs that will fit your specs.

Blackjack 155 with micarta scales. You buy the scales separately, but if you shop around you can get both for $80-85. The blade is convex 154cm.

The BK11 and BK14 can be had for around $40. They're both fixed blades, slightly over 3" in terms of cutting area, lightweight, easy to carry discretely, and for working in a bar the BK11 has a built in bottle opener.
