Okay, so my computer is in need of a great Anti Virus. Can you guys recommend me one ? I have experienced the loss of all my data when my computer got infected before, so money is no object in this case.

Norton Anti-Virus from Symantec Corporation. Be sure to subscribe to the auto-update feature. I am on a broadband cable connection and use Zone Alarm Pro also. Between these two, I have successfully beaten back the attacks on my system and I have had no detectable loss or compromise of my data.

Since you state money is no object, invest in both even if you are on a modem. Zone Alarm blocks pop-ups, pop unders, and lots of snooping while you are online.

If you use your computer for any "real" work, the cost of this software and the subscription services is insignificant compared to the cost of one episode of data loss or system compromise.

I've been using AVG for months, since I found Norton (came with the PC) wanted more money.
Seems to work fine; same weekly virus database updates (you can set em' up to be automatic) and so forth.

My only quibble, and a minor one, is that it's a little inconvenient to turn off when you're gaming. You have to open a box, check off all the functions, hit "apply", and so forth. Still only takes a few seconds, though.

Norton Anti-Virus. They one and only way to go. I had McAfee but I got rid of it because even with the updates I was getting more than your usual amount of viruses. Nothing damaging, just annoyances. But, it was enough for me to switch. I have had only 2 infections since I switched 3 years ago and they were my own damn fault.

McAfee is the only one I trust. I maintain a network for a living, with all 400 PCs hooked up to the Internet, and have never had a virus get through.

Keep in mind that there's a big difference between the McAfee home version and business version. You typically get the home version at the store and through the McAfee website. The business class version is usually purchased through McAfee's parent company, Network Associates - Network Associates .

I have used paid subscriptions to both McAfee and Norton at my home. I find Norton to be the better solution and it is the one I currently use. Norton has stopped many problems before they began, most of which were self inflicted because I brought home content from less then pristine sources.

For a true business, there are other options that may be worthwhile.

I use free AVG and the free version of Zone Alarm. I used to run Norton, purely because it came bundled with my PC. After 3 years they withdrew support for that version. It was either pay out £50 or go free. I've never had any problems with the freeware.

Also pick up Spybot Search & Destroy. Keep it updated & scan your system regularly.

All at my favourite price!

After much consideration, I have picked Norton Anti virus, Zone alarm and Norton Internet security. Meanwhile I'll use the Spybot search and destroy program.

Thanks for the excellent suggestion.
