Looking for an early 70's Case

I was hopin' y'all could help me with this one...

My Grandfather (Pappy) taught me how to use a knife. What he taught me with and carried every day was a Case Slipjoint pocket knife my mother had bought him as a retirement gift in the early 70's.

The knife had a single 2.5"-ish Carbon steel sheeps foot blade. and a hardwood handle that was most likely walnut or oak.

Anyone help me in identifying the model of this one, and where to track one down at? (If I can at least learn the model of it I could scour E-Prey and so forth a little more easily)

I wanted it VERY badly when he passed away, but wasn't so fortunate. I'd still really, really, really like to have one anyways.

I just saw a very similar one from Germany, got a lump in my throat and posted this the next minute.:o

You are probably looking for a model 11031(SH). It may or may not have the SH after the number. Some of them were stamped "WHALER" on the wood handle, but it's a light duty rope knife, essentially.
What irks me is, I know I have one, but I can't find it!!
If I do, I'll email you,
Charlie

Actually the 11031SH is a different knife from the Whaler which is the 1199SHRSS.

The whaler is larger at 4-1/8" closed length, has a bail and a single regular pull stainless steel sheepfoot blade. Bolsters at both ends. No CASE shield but CASE XX WHALER heat stamped into the front handle.

The 11031SH is carbon steel (CV) with a single long pull sheepfoot blade, no bail, no lower bolster, with the CASE shield. Some were custom ordered with bails, but they are pretty rare.

I hope whoever did get it treasures it as you would have.

Thanks for the sentiment, but I'm pretty sure it went to one of the vultures. Most likely not in beautiful shape. He and I kinda had a special relationship with knives. I am the only member of the family that could say "that Remington was my Great Aunt Kate's, That Ka-Bar fishing knife was found by Pappy on a river bank" etc. Oh well. It's just stuff anyways, but lookin' at 'em sure does bring back memories.

On a happy note, I did get the best knife of the whole bunch. an old deer foot Linder that he'd rehandled with Oak, made a new sheath for and carried through WW2. He marked all the places he went to during the war on the front and the back of the sheath. Between that, a S&W revolver (the first I ever fired) and the American flag he was buried with, I really have no right to complain.

Thanks for all the input already guys.

My mother bought it for him from a hardware store when he retired and gave it to him with a massive block of oak to help pass the retirement years.

I do remember it having nickel bolsters, and I remember a Case logo in the handle. nothing to do with whales or anything though?

Once again, thanks a million, y'all got me on a good start!

I wish I could find that *&^%$knife! I don't remember it being as big as a 99, but it definitely had "Whaler" on it.

I sure appreciate ya' lookin'- know how frustrating that can be. If it should pop up lemme know.

Any guesstimates as to the average price of one? (I'm of course willing to pay more than "average" but wanted a ballpark figure)
