Hi all, I'm pretty new to knives so I need some recommendations. The things I'm looking for in a knife are:

  • flipper
  • ergo grip
  • preferably under $50
  • sharp, but with good edge retention

I was looking at the Cold Steel AK-47 Mini but I've heard a few complaints about it from people and I'd prefer having the flipper. Anyone have a better suggestion for me? Whatever I buy will become my EDC knife until it breaks, as I've been using TacForce knives for the last couple of years (good for the price but the quality does show).

Look at the Kershaw Strobe. Flipper with the KVT system (very smooth). The steel is not great, but as good as you're going to get at that price point ($37.00). Excellent value.

I say get a Kershaw Cryo 1 or 2 (depending on the size you want). Gotta love a Rick Hinderer design for $30 and its very comfortable in hand. Some nice features are 4 way positionable clip (on stainless handle, G10 handle has right side only), deep carry pocket clip and a decent blade coating. Watch youtube vids on it. Its a screaming deal for $30

If you want "good edge retention", I'd avoid chinese made Kerhsaw knives. The steel on those is okay, but not great.

Take a look at the Kershaw Skyline.
