Looking for an EDC recommendation

Hi guys.

I am looking for a smaller EDC folder, smaller on the blade length maybe 3"ish. I prefer no assisted open, and would prefer no linear or frame lock (anyone else have a wife who likes to borrow a knife and no matter how many times you say to be careful closing the blade still makes you cringe each time when a finger is close to the closing path?). Not a big fan of the nail nick or thumb hole opening options. Aesthetically I do like drop point blades. The Becker BK2/ESEE knives are two fixed blades that I think are great lookers.

Use will be light. boxes, tape, office type stuff.

$$ id like to stick to $50ish but would consider $75 if it was a lot better but would rather stay <$50.

I've given consideration to the Ontario RAT or Utiliac but would rather not have the liner lock.
I've looked at the mini Griptilian but that is looking north of what I want to spend.
The Mini Recon 1 Spear point looks like it could work though I have heard some negative feedback on it/CS.

So what do you think given my preferences?

Thanks!

Check out the KaBar Dozier folding knives. They usually run around $20-25 and are very serviceable for your purposes. I believe they are made from AUS-8 stainless steel. They all have a lock back design and come razor sharp from the factory. They hold an edge well and are very easy to carry in your front pocket or clipped inside your waistband. I've owned a few but have gone to edc'ing a small fixed blade whenever possible.

Here's a link to the KaBar website.

Have you considered Opinel? They are simple, inexpensive and with a bit of sharpening are phenominal slicers. They are a little more traditional looking and work very well as office knives.

Don't pay attention to the CS stuff when it comes to the mini-recon 1. It is a great knife, period. When it comes out in CTS-XHP it will be THE knife to have. It is a bit big and hard on pockets, though. I would look at the Code 4.

Most of the time, but (as with the Mini-Recon 1) not always, you get a better knife with more cost.

You could try the Benchmade Mini-Landslide ($37) which is also salt water rated (KW has). Also, since you seem to not like Spyderco (try them and you will get addicted), look at some of the many Kershaw offerings, such as the Leek, Blur, and etc.

You can pick up the mini grips on the big auction site for that much. Try pasting this in the search field. 👍

If you aren't into frame or liner locks, that will limit your options to something with the Cold Steel Triad lock, Benchmade's Axis lock, and one of the Bucks with their lockback.

I would probably recommend trying to score a used Benchmade something here on the Exchange, or else a Cold Steel Voyager, Recon, or one of their other smaller blades.

My first knife was a CRKT Ripple the black aluminum version. The knife was so smooth and is still smooth. If you like flippers i recommend that. Well I got it a week ago and since then I got two more knives so it's being alternated in my edc. Also it isn't very sharp out of box so you will need to sharpen it.

The Ripple has a linerlock, which he says he doesn't want.

Spyderco UKPK
You can open it like an easy open traditional.
No lock. Under $50 with frn handles in different colors.
Plain edge available. I lost count of how many times i dropped
mine at work onto concrete, you can't even tell.
I didn't like sppydercos much until i had a ukpk in hand.

Opinel is also a good option.

Thanks all for the recommendations so far. I am looking into each of them some pretty good choices I hadn't looked into. If you have any more keep em coming :)

Thanks.
