Hey guys, I am looking for an expedition bag for extended visits in to the rocky mountains. I have a maxpedition monsoon which won't hold 1/4 of the gear I will need/want to make a trip like this. I want something that has a frame construction and can hold a great deal of gear. I want something made in Canada or the States, I doubt anything like this is made in Canada anymore but I see those Kifaru bags are made in the States. Anyone have any experience with the larger Kifaru bags? Any help in choosing a good bag would be great.....Must have molle attachments for my H.E.S.T

There is a company that makes custom bags out of Canada. I forgot the name of the company though... Mystery Ranch has some bags that can carry an ungodly amount of gear-up to 7500 cubic inches. Made in Montana. If you don't have that kind of budget I'd look at the Kelty Redwing.

hi, i've gone on several extended hikes in the rockies. some of the most beautiful places to see.

for a pack i'm cheap but i've used several different ones, the one i'm using now is a good old us army pack, its alittle heavier but very tough. plastic frame seperate and replaceable straps and a good range of fitting for differnt builds. you can pick up the desert version on ebay for about 50 bucks right now.

The good Ol' MOLLE II... I've got a source where you can buy the entire kit n' cabootle for 50 bucks. I just got another ALICE pack from him, I recieved it 3 days after placing the order.

If you have the money to throw down check out Eberlestock. I got one in May This thing is awesome & covered with molle inside & out.

If they made a bigger bag without the scabbard it would definitely be practical in this instance, and the Operator sure is one heck of an ideal combat and bugout bag, but I think Glen needs to sit down and draw out some more (bigger) spec ops designs. The skycrane is great but takes an additional 500 bucks in gear to use (It's basically a high volume external frame) and the next size is a huge drop to the 3900 cubic inch operator. Something in the order of 5500-6000 would be perfect.

I have two Kifaru bags -- an Xray (EDC) and a Zulu (3 day) -- so I can't comment on their largest bags by direct experience. However, their smaller bags are outstanding. They are comfortable, despite their sturdiness, and the construction quality is second to none. They have great customer service too. I doubt you could go wrong with a Kifaru.

I have an original Dana Design Terraplane Overkill (Dana Gleason now produces Mystery Ranch packs in Bozeman, MT) that is still going strong. If I ever need to replace it, I plan to get a Kifaru ZXR (although MR would be a close second).

I've got an Arc'teryx Bora 80. It might not be exactly what you are looking for, however it is made in Canada. It's internal frame and can hold a lot of stuff.

Arc'teryx Altra 65L or 75L are awesome bags with alot of great features:
A swivel hipbelt.
Adjustable shoulder strap locations.
You can stuff it from the top or unzip it like a suitcase and exposes all your gear.
They also leave a pocket behind your head for when you overpack, so you can still tilt your head back to look up without having to lean back.

MEC carries them.

They have a store in Edmonton, and they have bags on display that you can try on and see if you like them.

Rush 24 is a pack I've beat on, abused, and loved on my back in the woods for about 10 months now...during the week it's edc and laptop carry to the office. Fits fine with suits and campfires. Mine's black so the molle disappears from 5 feet away...and the internal organization will spoil ya...

Kifaru is great too...but if you get the Rush you can get an extra Rat of your choice with the extra funds...or 4 or 5 Izula's. :)
