Just getting equipment together to try making knifes. Have read a couple of books, and created some templates. Would like to get some practical instuction from an experienced maker in Southern MN or Northern Iowa, and cannot locate them on my own. Some things I don't understand may clear up with 1st hand view of methods. Can afford to pay a little (can't afford trip to Texas knife making school)

take a look in the newbe thread and theres a link to frapper that has a bunch of makers listed that might help just make sure that you also click the link on frapper that says showw all markers
hope this helps a little

Checked out frappr, nothing within 150 miles, then came across one maker with a knife business. Will attempt contact him and see if we can work something out or if he is even willing. There was another person listed real close but they turned out to be someone who stumbled onto frappr and added themselves and have nothing to do with knives.

Looked a little closer and found a maker right in my town. Emailed him to start a dialoge and will see how things work out. Thanks for the frappr hint.

Well We had our first meeting. Spent two hours reviewing his shop and equipment. T is a very friendly person and makes Great looking knives:thumbup: . He answered many of my questions just in discussing the equipment. He lent me some videos to watch and gave me some handle material and a book. I feel like I can approach my current knife project with more confidence after leaving his shop. Looking forward to maintaining dialogue with him (without interfering with his golf). Thanks much T. If this group is half as friendly and helpful as you were I am really looking forward to becoming a part of this group.
