It's been a while since I've been here on the forum, but I cannot help but notice the absence of a very common name and the guy who got me hooked on the 165. Not sure this is appropriate to ask...
Has anybody heard from codger?
Thanks,
Greg

the last posts i can find by Michael were made on april 18th.
he and his wife separated some months ago and from what little(no pun) he said, his living conditions had become very basic, including having to use a library computer to make posts. a month "away" is a long time for Codger; i hope he is o.k. i would phone him if i had a #.

Roland,
Thank you. I tried to email him yesterday and it bounced back.
That got me a bit concerned.
Just hope he's well, that's all.
Heckuva of a nice guy!
Thank you.
Greg

O.K., Let's start a search party ! surely someone here has current contact info for Michael ? former address ? company business name ? lives nearby ?
come on guys, maybe he needs a little support ? that's what friends do !
if you have info but would rather not follow through, please forward it to me.
roland

I saw he was on here yesterday, as an active user. Say Hi Michael, let us know you are O.K!

Excellent news Charlie ! Come on Codg., no need for a usual well researched informative post; just a "Hi".

Still alive here. Somewhere. I've been up to my arse in alligators for quite a while now, since Thanksgiving in fact. I'm not giving out my email address just now because "someone" hacked my passwords and sent emails to friends and family members accusing me of all sorts of untrue things. The same person ran up a lot of bills in my name that I am trying to sort out and pay off.

I do drop in and read at least once a week, but having not yet established a new permanent residence, I cannot get internet yet. I will before too long.

Also, my work has been sparse this spring after a winter when it was nonexistant, so my gold membership expired here on my birthday last winter, two days before Christmas. I'll come up with the fee for gold or platinum as soon as I get other things back under control.

From what I have read during my "vacation", you fellows have done a great job in keeping things cooking. I have enjoyed the pictures posted, and some good detective work on everyone's part. Dale (Orvet) has been especially generous here. Thank you Dale! Oh, and Larry Roo Hoo! Man, I miss my friends here. It won't be long til I'll be back.

And now for the bonus round question:

What patterns were the two earliest known (to this point) Old Timer knives and who made them?

(Hint - I've shown them here before and neither of them were 2OT)

Michael ;)

Michael,
Good to hear you're well. Um... as well as can be at least!
Feared you might have fallen into a pool or somesuch.
Um...
and now I feel like a goof for the mild panic.
It was well meant, believe me.

Greg

Michael, great to read your words, hopefully all will work out for you in the end.

Remember, Karma has a way of messin' with people.

yes bridgeman micheal has a way of hooking us on 165's(and everything else schrade as well!) he is a pillar in the shradeaholic groupies. cant wait till he is back.

Michael, welcome back!! You have been missed! I sure know about the non-existent work aspect of this economy, hence my blue screen name as well:grumpy: . Sure hope things pick up for you soon! We've certainly got a hell of a great bunch of folks on here, I might not always post, but not a day goes by that I don't check up on what's going on.

Since I can't search back, I can only say that I seem to recall you posting an old wood handled fixed blade knife with "Old Timer" on the handle. I don't believe it was Schrade though.

Eric

Eric, you have the mammary... er... memory of an elephant! Yes, I have a butcher knife and matching paring knife with faux hammer forged carbon steel blades, Old Timer in script on the hardwood handles. They are Universal Brand by LF&C. Date of production is uncertain, but almost certainly before the mid 1950's when LF&C got completely out of the cutlery biz. I've not found the name to be registered by LF&C, so the Baers either bought or adopted the Old Timer name and trademarked it themselves.

I've been out of the market for Schrades for a while now, so no new acquisitions to show you. Sometime this summer I'll be back in the saddle with collecting and writing Schrades. I've lost almost everything in this debacle except my knives, my files and my clothes. The wiring of the crappy old house I am temporarily living in fried the power supply on my computer night before last, so I have one more expense I had not counted on. Good news is that pools are beginning to sell. I'll start a new one next week and have another to build right after that one. So funds for the final "BIG D" are in view. Then getting back online, then playtime. Daughter is going to marry this summer (last child at home), wifey will be out of the game and out of the park. Prime time for Codger! I may even get new glasses and dentures! Woo hoo!!

Michael

hi Codg., good to hear your star is rising again ! i think most of us now long divorced guys found it took many months for our life and ourselves to really get established on the upswing, but once started, there is no looking back.
you get yourself back, a little wiser, more self knowledgeable, and for sure happier. welcome to the old smilin farts club; it's a lotta fun, besides being able to 'knife' without criticism.
roland

Glad to hear you are still kickin' Michael.
As Roland says, you will come through this and be fine, just hurts like hell when you are going through it. I even got remarried (about 9 years ago) and my new wife helps me at my table at knife shows!
Who would have thought? :D

Dale

Good to hear from you, Michael.

I have been out of the game for awhile myself, recovering from bypass surgery.

I guess we all have our trials in life.

Please stay in touch...

Glenn

Great to hear from you again, Michael! Keep in touch whenever you get the chance, and like the others said, you'll pull through fine.

Dave

Sorry to read all of this, Michael. I am sure you will get back on your feet again. Best of luck to you.
Another old Friend

Mammaries? Aint no elephant mammaries here!:D:D

I thought it was one of those New England companies Michael, but that's about as far as my memory would take me:confused: It was a very cool post, first I'd seen of that knife:thumbup:.

Glenn, welcome back as well! Here's hoping for a speedy recovery!!

Eric

Again, thanks guys. This was my second marriage. And my last. No, not turning ghey, but certainly decided that the pleasure isn't worth the pain. I envy those of you who chose your ladies more wisely than I have.

Anyway, Glenn.... bypass surgery? Man! That does take some recovery time. I hope it is going well and without complications worse than prescriptions taking all of your knife money!

T.E. ... I don't know about Karma, but I believe that we each will answer for our bad acts when we stand before our maker. I've never been one to seek revenge. I just cross people off of my list of people I am willing to take the time to deal with. So maybe that is Karma.

So... with only twenty 165's... who here has more than me now? And where is that elusive second DU issue I need? And that mint COPE edition? The search will resume in July or August, particularly if I can clear my ebay account of the (hackerette?) who changed my password and email addresses on there.

Are we having fun yet?

Michael

Having picked up my 165 habit from you Michael...
Regarding the COPE. I have two versions. The first says "Limited Edition" on the blade and is in a plain white box with 165B on the end. The second says "Copenhagen" on the blade and is in a black and gold box that also says Copenhagen. I wonder if Schrade made a Skoal version???
Total number? NOwhere near you codg. eight I think. LOVE the style.
Still have the 165UH I can't figure out!

Oh, and what is the second DU issue? Mine has the etch I've always seen with the hallmark on the guard, E with no box.
