Looking for another multitool - fishing - need good pliers

I was at Cabelas a while back and picked up a cheap ($5) mini multi tool just on a whim. My every day multi tool now is a Leatherman Charge TTi, and I use it every day. My thought with the small Cabelas one was to put it in my fly fishing vest so I always had one. I have forceps in there for hook removal that I use for 85% of the fish I catch, but there have been a few instances where I have to turn to my multi tool pliers to get some extra force/pinching ability. To that point I am not sure I trust the Cabelas multi tool I got.

Looking through Leatherman's line up it doesn't look like they have much in the way of mini multi tools, unless I am missing something. Are there any others out there you would recommend I look at? I would like something about half the size of the Charge I have and still be a high-quality tool, preferably with locking blades/tools.

Take a look at the SOG Blacktip. $29.95 right now at www.westmarine.com Excellent long nosed pliers etc. for fishing and very high quality. Real tough to beat, especially at that price!!

Thanks for the info. However, I am looking for a standard multitool form like my leatherman is.

The smaller leathermans do not have locking blades but the leatherman juice is a good option. There are four configurations so you can choose the one best suited to your needs.

Another vote for the Juice line..... Or, when fishing I always tote my Squirt P4. Really handy for trimming line, clipping leaders, extracting hooks, opening beers, etc.

I picked up a Leatherman Squirt PS4 today. This is closer to what I am after, but this one is pretty tiny. I suppose it is a good addition to my collection though.

The Cabelas one I have is 3" when closed. The Squirt is 2.25".

As mentioned, if you're looking for a LM bigger than a Squirt and smaller than a Charge, there's the Juice line. No locking though.

I don't own one, so don't know about durability (since they're for kids), but the Leatherman Leap actually sounds close to what you're looking for. Right size, needle-nose pliers, outside accessible locking blade/tools, and I think the blade is OHO. Again, you'd have to check reviews to see how tough it is though.

There's the SOG PPP, but it does have the inside tools. I think Gerber makes some around the size too, but not familiar with the brand (other than a Dime, which is alright).

Agreed. I don't particularly like anything about the Blacktip's tools and the blade and cutter are literally painful to open one handed on mine (even sans those annoying safeties), but the pliers are fantastic. It does make the LM Surge look small though, so probably not what the OP is looking for. ;)

I have the Leatherman Juice CS4. It replaced an older Juice S2 that I left on the beach in Florida after fishing.

The Juice line has proven in my use to very durable. It is not a full size tool but if you do not use it in place of a wrench or hammer it does the job fine. It is my EDC along with a Kershaw.

I have used it fishing from boats and fishing from shore, open water and on the ice, from Northwest Ontario to Gulf Coast of Florida.

The CS4 is a bit wider than the S2 but I do not notice it in the pocket. I have not utilized the extra tools that the CS4 gets me over the S2.

I can not count the number of times I needed to take a hook out, turn a screw...and it was right in my pocket.

Good Luck
