I posted in the exchange trade forum that I was looking for an antler handled HI kerambit. take a look. Thanks.

My chandan handled kerambit has been sharpened by Tom Krein and he made me a custon kydex sheath for it. The only reason I'm interested in tradin is that I'm focusing on the "smal" antler handled HIs. I really like the looks of the antler handles on the smaller HIs like the JKM, the KK and the Sarge.

What do you guys think about the antler handles?

Also looking for antler handled YCS Karda, maybe a tez darr.

I love antler.
I'd really like an antler kerambit as well (don't worry. Not looking for awhile. We won't be competing;))
I'd use the antler for show and my sandlewood for go:) I love antler. it's my favorite material. An antler sarge/KPH is just about perfect

Antler is much like horn and looks far better. It seems a bit denser than all the other handle materials and feels more solid in the hand. My particular favorite, both for looks and for function.

P.S. You'd better find that antler kerambit before I do, Shann. ;)

Shann,

If my finances firm up- which I'm expecting to happen w/in the month- I'd be happy to buy you an antler K from HI, in exchange for your chandan K and Krein sheath. (Tom's a good fellow, ain't he?)

Regards,

John Shirley

I have two of them and I like them better than any of the wood or horn handles I have except when my hands are wet then the wood feels more secure.

I have only one that has a handle that I don't care for and thats a stag.

Where does bone stand regarding strength, longevity, and beauty compared to horn or antler?

My Uncle Bill Salyan has a bone handle.

ps, for some reason, this reminds me of the tooth Bill had pulled. We told him we wanted to put it in a handle and asked how much would that cost?

I believe bone has more of of tendency to crack and/or is more brittle than horn or antler. When I was first posting on the HI forum on Knifeforums Bill made the comment that he didn't like bone for the above reasons.

Bone is the only thing from HI that has ever broken for me. Both the bone handles I have disintegrated on first use. I'd keep that one for slicing and not chopping.

Yep. Part of the increase in antler-handled khukuris is trying to replace the bone, except on smaller khukuris and kardas. Yangdu is sending Pala home with a box full of antler...so the good news is....expect to see more! :D
