I am on the lookout for big, stout, single blade folders in clip point, spear point, in folding hunters, barlows, and toothpicks. Mainly trying to stick with Case, Queen, And Schrade/Walden/Uncle Henry/Imperial.

So far I have 4 inch Toothpicks (2) but want another one. The two I have are white bone Case and a S&M File and Wire. Two folding hunters which I love the looks of but both are 2 bladed- Case and Schrade Walden.

Any recommendations for blades around 100.00 and less?

Thanks everyone.

My favorite biggie is this S&M File & Wire daddy barlow @ just under 5" closed. Beautiful bone and ATS-34 stainless, with two very different sized and shaped blades. You should be able to find one for $80 to $100.

Sorry OP, just realized you wanted SINGLE blade biggie. But S&M also made a lot of daddy barlows in single clip models which are very nice.

You could look at melon knives, which have very long blades. You could also drop $25 or so on an Opinel 12, or $150 or so on an Opinel 13.

I've got older Schrade and Queen single blade folding hunters. They're both pretty sweet and I'm sure plenty still can be found.

Case Back Pocket
Case Grand Daddy Barlow
Case Folding Hunter 6165 (Single blade) in several handle types (Amber Bone Rancher CV, Sawcut Carved Amber Bone SS) or several vendor-specific handles

The Case Sod Buster?

I just picked up the full size and it really seems to be a big sturdy knife!

I just grabbed this on the sale forum, hadn't seen one with the big spear blade. Feels great in hand. Northfield 722112

Best regards

Surely the GEC 23 fits this bill?? Not got one m'self as the 73 is plenty enough, but I hear the 23 is a substantial behemoth.....:D

Queen Hunter comes to mind as well, so too any make of GD Barlow.

Thanks, Will

If you can handle a drop point, I'd recommend a Queen Mountain Man.

Thanks everyone! I am excited about researching all of these recommendations. Really am finding a lot of enjoyment in traditionals. For a long time I only thought of G10 one handed opening knives.

Have two GEC 23's one with a spey blade and a liner lock with a clip blade. They are 4-1/2" with a 3-1/2" to 3-3/4" blade; mine are carried in an open belt sheath. Available in a wide range of blades and scales, if you are patient you can find one in the $70 to $100 range. Sturdy, sharp and very well made I recommend them highly. If you look on the traditional exchange there is a recent post (mostly sold) that will give you some beautiful examples in both 1 & 2 blade versions.

How about a Queen City "Coke Hunter"? It's a large Coke Bottle pattern with a Folding Hunter type bolster on the pivot end. It's 5.25" closed.

Picture taken from Mike Latham's website. They also made a locking version under the S&M brand.

If the regular Folding Hunter pattern appeals to you, Queen made some with only one blade.

I second the mountain man from queen. I would go for the slip joint version. all of the locking mountain man knives I have handled had play. be ready to do some reprofiling because I have never seen one with a useable edge from the factory. Mine is in D2 which I find a pain in the neck to sharpen after hard use. I usually have to resharpen it once a day. I would have gotten the 1095 myself but this knife was a gift from a former forumite. It is thin enough to carry in the pocket but solid enough to use hard.
