Looking for best way of handsharpening a knife.

Hello
Can anybody tell me or point me in the right direction to get literature on the best way of hand sharpening a knife. I have been sharpening knives for years with success. Recently I found a knife that was so sharp that It totally blew away anything that I could even emagine. I know it was hand sharpened and it was the sharpest knife that I have ever seen. Not only sharp but perfect looking. I would like some information on how to get my edges perfect.
