Believe it or not, the girlfriend wants one - guess she is watching too much Resident Evil. :D I want to get her one, but I do not want to spend a lot of money. So what is the recommended Kukri/Machete that is BIG, super sharp, and not too much $$..?

He he... We Swedes will giggle about this post. In swedish the word "Kuk" is the ugly version of the male... ehrrr.. peni... ehrrr... (you get the picture?). "So she want´s a big KUK?" (ROTFL... i´m so imature, sorry).

[EDIT / rules don't allow deal spotting]

..................................Ontario SP2502 Kukri machete.

She will work well with one like this ^^^. Smith and Wesson has one almost exactly the same but supposedly a lesser steel [440] but cheaper [$21 on am]. May the force be with her ;)

I also recommend it due to a much better handle gripwise then most of the kuks you will find on the web, almost all of them have wood, traditional handles which aren't a best option for SD.

Don't get me wrong, she can weild a bigger kuk, but speed and agility make a difference.

The ones I mentioned have 1/4" thick spines and weigh about 22 oz each.

The Chiruwa Ang Khola is their most heavy duty rated Khukuri. It's listed at 16-17 inches overall length, so the blade is probably around 10".

For the money these are the best Khukuris you can get. Made using traditional methods by people who have been doing this for generations.

If you want something just as tough, but more modern (and are willing to put down some extra cash) the Busse Killa Zilla 2 is currently available on the Busse Combat website. If you're going to get one of those don't wait. Busse only produces any given model for a limited time.

He's not asking what your favorite kuk is bud, he's asking for low-cost / decent value for the job at hand.
The Condor, S&W, and Ontario kuks blow the HIs out of the water value wise, sorry, and from what he said the OP is not about to
spend $100 on an AK.

Yeh, with the khuk/machete ''specification'' i'll have to recommend the Cold Steel machete khukri, i have one, i've abused it for years and it still asks for more.

I agree with the cold steel kukri machete you can find it on ebay for ~ $20 .

I personally own a Cold Steel San Mai III gurkha kukri and the Chiruwa Ang Khola from HI, if you want a good quality KUK take an Ang Khola (175$ ship included if you live in USA), yeah the San mai III cut as hell.. but this KUK not worth $400 i think:barf:, however still very impressive. ;)

If you want a KUK "just for fun" for chopping everything you see take the $20 cold steel kukri machete

Don't forget the KaBar Kukri. I don't think I've ever seen them for more than 50 bucks, and I also don't think I've ever seen a bad review.

Value is relative, but I guess considering $30 is "expensive" to the average person maybe you're right.

The Condor Machete Khukuri looks ok, but you really can't go wrong with the Chiruwa AK.

I know it's not a poll, but allow me to cast another vote for Cold Steel. Actually, the regular Kukri machete looks more like a regular knife rather than a machete, and still has about a 12 in. blade.

At her size, if she really wants something bigger, might also get her the CS two-handed kukri machete.

Incredible value for the money. As easy to sharpen as a blade that size can be (and I'll bet you'll be doing all her sharpening for her, won't you? :D), and tough as nails. She can play around w/it and not worry about breaking it b/c of the cost, too. As on all such knives in this price range, though, keep 'em oiled, so they don't rust.

cold steel magnum kuhkri.

CS magnum kukri or Condor Kukri
personally I like the walnut handle on the Condor as it can be sanded to shape to better fit your/her hand.

It would be helpful if the OP would give a more exact idea as to what "too much money" would be.

Personally, I would look at one of the lighter weight HI offerings such as a Sirupate.

The Siru pattern is lighter and thinner and faster, but still offers length and toughness.
