Im looking for the old school brown hiker. Does anyone know of anyone who makes one? The reason why im not more descriptive is because i want to also see what you think of as old school.

The Meindl Borneo. I have wide feet (EE in my Danner Acadias), and many US and Italian boots are too narrow for me. I team my Borneos with custom Superfeet insoles and Smartwool socks. Result? Happy feet!

Customer reviews:

1. "The best walking boot around without a goretex lining. my pair have never let in water except through the top and then they have dried out quickly. Easy to polish the leather to a shine.
After over fifty guided tours of the peakdistrict and all the miles that I have covered I havent had a single blister or sore foot yet. Brilliant boot from Germany."

2. "I have used them on Cadair idris, Pumlimon, around the Lakes, Pembs Coastal Path and messed about on the beach near my home. They have been brilliant, loads of support, no hotspots.

They are nice and high, give good support unlike the Zamberlain Ibex that I had before. If you like a high boot with bags of comfort, no Goretex so not sweaty, then these are the ones for you.

I would buy these again they are that good."

3. "I like lightweight footwear as I move fast, and these are perfect for when I can't wear trail shoes as they fit so well you scarcely notice them. The absence of a gore tex lining, which I usually find sweaty, means you have to look after them - but it's worth it because they will last forever. Pair them with some good socks and you will never have another hotspot or blister again."

Another vote for the Vasque Sundowner...My pair are 16 years old and still running like a champ. Been to Europe twice, The Rockies once, ran a delivery route for a number of years and now are just my bust around town boots. Love 'em.

redwing sometimes has versions of the old style logging/hiking boot

also check out your local farm supply and feed store as many in my area have a good selection of boots from Danner, Carolina, Rocky, and wolverine to name a few, I have even seen the Acaidia (sp?) in some of the farm stores as a lot of the ranch hands and farmers around here have taken to them as a general utillity boot that is comfortable all day. If you want to spend over $100.00 white's makes a darn good boot but be prepared to pay for the quallity.

I have a pair of 'Old School" brown suede hikers I got in '83. Still going strong. Been all over Europe & stalked the sidewalks of NYC for years.

Who knew there were so many Sundowner fans around here? I love my pair, and I got them because my brother swears by his that he has had for 10-15 years. Be aware that there are two different versions out there, one made in Italy (~$200) and the other made in China (~$150).
