There are many companies producing knives which are simply copies of buck 110 or are deeply inspired by this design. Other classic designs - like randall model 1 are available from various makers and companies.
Do you know any company producing knife similar to original Al Mar S.E.R.E folder?

Is there any traditional backlock with stainless bolsters formed in shape of double guard and spearpoint blade?
Of course I could buy original vintage al mar, but that would rather be good money investment (with prices from $250 to $400), that utility/fun knife, that I'm looking for.

Good luck!

This is one of my all-time favorite knife designs. I've looked for years to find one, or one similar to it, by a reputable maker. Haven't yet. And like yourself, I haven't been able to make myself spend the $300+ to get an original.

Apparently, the new S.E.R.E. 2000's are very good, but, just not the same as the original, IMO.

Watch out for counterfeits. They are out there.

thx - cpr

I bought one of those back in 1991 and carried it with me for a year in the Army. Very solid knife. Only issue with mine, was I bought it with the Rubber grips instead of the Camo Micarta. Should have got the Micarta. I was constantly having issues with the rubber coming off and always having to reglue it. Ended up selling it to a team mate. If I could find a good used one with the Micarta grips I would jump on it!

The Kershaw folding field knife is not a copy of the Al Mar but it is similar in that it is a big, heavy duty folder that fits very well in the hand. If I'm not mistaken this knife been in and out of production since the early 70's.

those knives in your picture ARE copies. I had one, someone told me it was not genuine, I took a pic and sent it to AMK to verify. nope, they aren't cheap, but they aren't genuine Al Mars. sort of.

AFAIK, they are made by the same company (same as how Cold Steel, Spyderco, Fallkniven, etc, have stuff made in Japan), it's just that they weren't made for AMK. If you look at the chop on the smaller one, it's not the right symbol, and the big one naturally is missing it.

Along with the copy, I had a genuine one. The copy was actually better quality construction and of course a little newer.

Hmmmm, getting a custom maker to make me something just like the old SERE. Now, you got me thinking and my bank account crying!!
