Looking for custom Machete

Hello,

I am looking for a high quality, user machete, probably custom made. I don't want a khukri. So far, I have only found Tai Goo. I would like to get a few more makers, so I can make a better decision. I don't want to buy an off-the-shelf machete such as Cold Steel, BK&T, Camillus, or Tramontina.

I've searched and not found much about custom machete makers, except Tai Goo.

Thanks.

When you have found Tai Goo, you have started at the top. You will find no better.

Looks like my post was moved to this forum.

Everything I've read about Tai's work so far has been top notch. I emailed him yesterday about specs, pricing, and ordering instructions.

I still want to find a few more makers who make larger working blades like machetes and bush knives.

Thanks for the input.

Machete you may think about Bill Seagel ( spelling ) from oregon city . he makes a big honkin machete type of blade 1/4 thick is average.
Tai Goo is a great maker as well , you might think about asking this in the Maker / Bladesmith area . i think you will find a variety of people willing to do this myself included but i have 3 month of order ahead of ya .

I've noticed that Bark River Knife and Tool makes some limited run things. They have a forum on Knifeforums.com in the manufacturers section. I think I just saw a run of Golok's there yesterday. Look pretty nice!

For a hard use item like a machete, I'd probably buy one off the shelf and use the heck out of it! If you kill a $10 machete it's no biggie! That said, I have a sweet Straight Back Machete that was made by Ross Aki, although I don't think he makes knives or machetes anymore. His site used to be www.macheteman.com. It's 1/16" thick ATS-34 with a convex edge and the thing is like a light saber!

Thanks for all the posts. That should be enough for me to make a decent decision.

Thanks.

Not to advertise for myself but I find a blade of 7 to 8 inches makes a damn fine camp / machetti length. TAke a look at what I am working on tonight. I can cut, chop, clear brush all with a small package that isn't a bear to carry. 13.25" overall. Just to get you thinking med instead of large.
Hope I could help.

Bill Siegle makes a da** nice machetti! (hope I spelled his name right) ;)
He is afordable too.

That is nice Brian. Looks like a nice all around blade. Nice grind, very utilitarian blade shape and great temper line. I don't think that blade would let down whomever get'd it.

I wish I knew what mag. had a review and what month it was in and I would try an get a picture of Bill's blade. It got great reviews from the author. I think it was in Tactical Knives, January issue

I think I have the mag at home. In my HUGH pile ;) Nice big knives he makes.

Definitely Bill Siegle if you want something big, solid, and utilitarian. :)

Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works or Dervish Knives are also two great places to check out.

Heres a couple I made for a friend. 2" wide .125 thick O1 tool steel. 18" overall with green Marcarti handle.

Maybe it will help with your design

N2S (man does he have some blades) has some of Bill's machetes posted
here
(towards the bottom of the page).

Phill Hartsfield makes a nice one. It isn't cheap and you have to wait a couple of years, but it will cut with anything. He told me that he's trying to get his delivery time down to a year.
