I've been using A2 as my knife steel and want to try D2 on a few blades.
Can anyone give me a competitive source? I'd like to approach 5/32 x 1 1/4 to avoid waste. I have used McMaster Carr in the past.

K&G sometimes has D2 that is not flat ground. It is much cheaper. Try www.knifeandgun.com. You will need to send them an email or call because they don't generally have it listed. They are good folks to deal with.
