I am looking for a dive knife (under $100) that has a sheath which can be attached by screws through fabric (firefighter coat.) If anyone has a suggest please let me know.

Thanks.

Little bit pricey and im not looking so much for a skeletal knife.

I want something with a nice full grip that is easy to feel with a thick firefighting glove on.

The problem I am having is that all the knives I like, the sheath is meant to be sewn to the fabric or more commonly has loops to be around the arm or leg.

I literally want something with 2 screws in the back that I can poke a hole in the fabric of the coat and bolt it to.

Can't think of anything modern with such a sheath. Spyderco might have a fixed blade with screw attachments.

What does come to mind however are the old Aqua Lung/Sportsman's Dive knives that are commonly sold on a big auction site. They have large, almost paddle holster-like sheaths. Plenty of material to drill through and secure with some chicago screws or some such to a jacket.

Hope that helps.

You might need to go with a custom kydex sheath. Get the knife that fits your gloved hand the best and go custom. That way you could have bolts and/or bolt holes installed exactly where you need/want them

Sounds massively over my budget lol...

Not really.

The serious answer - if it's what you need, it's worth it. I was a FF for 23 years. I KNOW that pain in the posterior feeling of not being able to access something with gloves on.:(

The less serious answer - If you have or have a friend who has a few shop tools - drill press, scroll saw, grinding wheel/buffer, you could make one yourself with a little effort. :D Perfect looking? Maybe not, but that's part of the fun in redoing what you don't like etc...

Google for kydex sheath making and there are a ton of videos out there. Some are lousy, some are great, and every where in between. There's even a couple where the guy made a pretty decent sheath using his vacuum cleaner and a ziplock bag to form the parts. Kydex sheets are available at your local Tandy store and other sources.

Draw what you think you want or need on paper, then make one out of cardboard/construction paper/poster board for a trial run and go from there. Half the fun is redesigning and prototyping (at least I have fun doing that - but then my niece says I make a pretzel look straight.)

Mah brotha :o

I have the Spyderco Rescue 93 on my coat at the moment and it hangs from it with a clip but it swings around and whatnot. Its an excellent blade but I want something more permanent mounted on my right chest next to the flashlight.

Honestly now that I think about it something like this would probably work. This form of sheath anyhow.

I could just put 3 or 4 screws instead of 2 I suppose but I would need to cut off the bottom half with the strap/clip nonsense. I just wan't the friction lock or a push button release.

I would get a grommet kit and lash the knife into your coat with some 550 cord. There are a bunch of knives that have kydex sheaths with plenty of lashing holes built into them. I wouldn't mess around with screws in this situation. [i am an industrial mechanic and machinist]. You will probly need a hole cutting punch to install the grommets most grommet kits don't have one in them. Good luck Mr.
