Looking to switch it up and carry a small fixed blade for a change. Been out of the loop for a bit. Looking for something with a 4” or less blade and right side carry. Budget is less than $200. Any suggestions?

If you really want something unique, you can find a fixed blade thru a maker here. With your budget, you have some options. You admittedly won't get a *super steel* if you go the custom route.

Other wise,
My first thought was Bradford. A ton of choices.

Handle too thick?

Are you thinking cross draw or normal (ie. hanging down/dangler) carry? The sheath carry option might alter the choices of course.

You should check out the Civivi Tamashii. $70, 4" satin or black stonewashed D2 blade, micarta or G10 handles, good kydex sheath. Practical tactical. I have the micarta. I'll probably get another one.

I've just recently discovered the White River Backpacker. It's a nice, high quality knife that meets your requirements.

White River really does a good job with their S35VN heat treatment. I have 2 Sendero Classics, one of which is my EDC, and a Todd Begg collaboration, the Recondo. I haven't felt the need for a 3" blade, but have been kicking around the idea of the M1 Caper.

Another couple of good made in China knives are the Ruike Jager, with a 4" blade($70), and the Hornet, with a 3.3" blade, $45ish. Steel is Sandvik 14C28N, handles are G10, sheaths are ABS plastic. A Ruike folder in 14C28N has been my EDC backup for more than 2 years, opening and cutting down boxes when I feel like using something besides the Sendero. Ruike also does a good job with heat treatment, and 14C28N is easily one of the better stainless alloys available, even if it is considered a budget steel.

TOPS Knives has numerous choices in the 4"and under range, within your budget. They're made in the USA with 1095 carbon steel, a good heat treatment, and mostly micarta handles. I carried the TOPS Skinat for several years, a 4" drop point, very handy, and nearly indestructible.

Honestly, you have hundreds, if not thousands, of options....

I had the same idea and now have a White River Backpacker Pro (just over 3" blade) on it's way to me from another member via the Exchange.

Scrap Yard Knife Company (SYKCO) has a number of smaller knives with blades around 4”. I have access to two, the WS1020, a hair over 4”, and the WS621, just under 4”. Around $100, plus $25 for a pretty decent leather pouch sheath.

SR101 steel, similar to 52100, and reseprine handles.

Like everyone said, lots of options. I found that once I went to fixed blade edc it was hard to go back to folders, so I carry one of each now. Off the top of my head White River, Bark River, Bradford, TOPS, ESEE, BK&T, Spyderco, and Benchmade all have some knives that fit the bill.

I won’t recommend a knife that I haven’t at least used, even though I know there are lots of good options out there that I have no experience with.
Some recommendations that I have (or had), am familiar with, and have enjoyed, in no particular order are:

ESEE Izula: steel choice of 1095 or s35v
ESEE Izula 2: 1095
ESEE Candiru: 1095
Kabar/Becker BK14: 1095 cro-van
Kabar/Becker BK11: 1095 cro-can
Kabar/Becker BK13: 1095 cro-van
Buck Paklite Skinner 140: 420hc
LT Wright Frontier First: cpm-3v or a2
Spyderco ARK: H1 steel

I have used all of these knives and can attest that they will definitely work as an edc knife, either alone or paired with something else. One of those was my only edc for years and another of those is, and will remain, my current edc paired with a folder. None of those are expensive, the LT Wright is the most expensive of the group at about $100. They aren’t fancy, they won’t get you likes on Instagram or Reddit, and probably won’t help you pick up chicks, but all of those are solid recommendations. As always, it’s all personal preference. Happy hunting!

Kick up your price a tiny bit, and you could grab a Bob Dozier.
Horizontal carry/perfect sheath

Perfect edc, and it outclasses what's been said by a country mile.....

I would recommend one of the smaller knives by makers here on the forum in the exchange. something from Daado once and awhile pops up in the smaller size, mostly in 52100. Other makers are GL Drew, Duck Childress, and O’neall just to name a few. Some of the good values I have are also from redsquid2, his are good users. Other company ones from LT Wright, Battlehorse, and Enzo/Brisa.
