Hey guys, I am looking for an EDC 3-4" fixed blade. Preferably with a sheath that is easy to disengage & engage, and in the price range of 25-$100. This knife will sit in a EDC bag that I keep inside my car during the summer & winter... I don't know if this will cause the blade to rust or not.

I think the primary roll for this knife is just something easy to lug around if I am going hiking or camping. Please nothing bigger than 4"

I've never had a fixed blade before (besides a heavy BK2), so please help me out!

I was thinking something like this gorgeous Blackjack Necker, but I believe it doesn't come with a sheath.

i just recently ordered a cold steel pendleton lite witch was about 17$ on amazon, i havent used it but there is the cold steel finn bear witch is a bit bigger, both come with nylon belt sheaths

Hope this helps.

If the knife is not used for a while, it does tend to rust - especially if you are in humid climate (or travel to one). You should avoid knives made of 1095 carbon steel as they do rust faster than powdered steels like S30V. An excellent resource for custom fixed blades is the Knifemakers section, fixed blades for sale, where I do see many blades around the $100 mark that would make an ideal carry for you. No idea about any non rusting production models though.

I edc an esee 3 and love it. It is 1095 though so care must be taken for rust but imo the 3 is about the best edc fixed ever.

I have the Blackjack Necker in Black without the scales. I just wrapped it in paracord and it is great. It has a great convex edge. The sheath I have is a sandwiched kydex which is good for neck carry but not much for belt carry (you can use paracord, doable but not good enough for me).

For Knives like the Blackjack Necker, you should look up ESEE Izula, Bark River Bravo Necker, Scrapyard Scrapivore, or Spartan Phobos :)

I know the knife is weak in terms of corrosion resistance however I'm a huge fan of the Swamp Rat Swamp Warden, however, I've found the blade steel to be very tough and at the same time has a great deal of edge retention. All in all while this isn't the perfect blade steel it's pretty close IMO.

EDC fixed blade... check

channel your inner Highlander. You just need a trenchcoat and 300+ years of martial arts training

I think this is the knife.... except in Mini Hunter variant. About $50...

3" Blade, 2.4OZ, Plastic Sheath, with VG-1 steel... I hope it will withstand the elements with less care... I understand that it may rust, but as long as it doesn't rust like crazy. Is VG-1 a good steel for my needs? This knife won't really be used TOO often, mostly for camping.

I want an ESEE Izula knife, but I don't think it will be good in my back pack. It's too nice. :p .... and i've read up on that steel, one of the first things I read is that it rusts.

I would really look into the H.E.S.T knife, its amazing, possibly the best production edc FB ive seen.
Shadowtech makes some great custom knives on the cheap.

I've honestly never had an issue with rust on any of my 1095 blades. Then again, I take good care of them, and I live in an arid climate. If you put a coat of oil on after you use and before you store it, you should be fine. If cost is a factor, you can't do much better than 1095.

$20 at Wally World - and a hank of paracord - you can have a USA-made Buck 143 made of properly heat-treated 420HC:

The Buck 005GYS 'Gen5' in grey Dymondwood and 420HC with a nylon horizontal belt carry sheath, USA-made knife, is a handy hiking companion ~$55, with limited availability as it is no longer cataloged. There is a similar newer knife - the Buck 113 Ranger FB, with it's vertical leather drop sheath, ~$60.

For a very good blade/handle ratio in a great steel, check out the Bark River Necker 2 in CPM-3V.
7 inches overall, with 3.5" blade and 3.5" handle. Under 2 ounces without the scales as a skeleton. Scales available in a selection of materials if you want scales.
Comes with kydex.
CMP-3V is extremely tough.
Just a shade over your budget at $107 w/o scales.

There are SO many options and so many styles in this category. You should hash out whether you want to carry stainless or carbon steel. You should then hash out a basic geometry and form. Guard or no guard? Skeletonized? Then figure out how you want to carry it. When you have these kinds of ideas you'll have a much stronger idea of what you want to own and carry.

I recommend checking out the Benchmade Nim Cub II. Then check out the Gryphon M10. You can get a Blackjack Model 155 necker in 154cm with a kydex sheath for a *very* reasonable price (under your budget by 30 or so dollars) from certain websites that aren't too hard to find. Shoot me a private or email if you want to know.

Cold steel has a lot of options. Then there are a whole world of knives in alternate styles. This really is a very expansive topic.

I ended up getting an ESEE Izula 2, black with micarta handles. It also came with a kit with some other doodads...

I figure i'll cover the blade with some type of oil to protect it. :)

Also, the blade is a little smaller than 3-4" but I think it will do the trick!!

Thanks guys!!!

The military keeps metal goods ready for service in long term storage, wrapped in oiled paper mated the the surface of the metal. Then placing that in a plastic bag, shelters the oil from deterioration I would say your metal tool would be preserved and ready inside your bag when you took it with you. If I were going to store it away in preparations, it would be packaged this way.

Maybe even leave it in the package it shipped in, then put that in the bag. You will be good to go.

I EDC a Chris Reeve Professional Soldier and just pocket carry it. It’s more than you want to spend but is a KILLER blade. That said I am going to look for a few knives in the knife maker section for my next small fixed blade. You can surely get something in your price range in there. I have seen some awesome deals in there. If you’re going to be carrying it in a pack instead of on your person you can go with a little more blade. If you want an ESEE I would go with the RC3 over the Izula, however If you can swing the 2 bills though the CRK Pro Soldier is where it’s at
