I am looking for an new EDC knife in the $80-140 range. I've been looking at the Manix 2 Lightweight as well as the Griptilian. I have also considered the Paramilitary 2, but haven't been able to find one. I would like a good steel, and don't mind trying different handle materials. The Kershaw Skyline is my current EDC and I'd like to make a step up. Any suggestions?

The FFG offered on the Manix will give you a better slicing knife. And, the knife's a little thinner in size, a big plus for pocket carry.

If you wear work gloves, consider the Griptillian. It will fill your hand better. From what I hear, the Doug Ritter version is the way to go.

Both are fine knives. Have you considered just getting both of them?

I would strongly recommend the PM2. They are in stock at Knifeworks...trusted seller with fast shipping.

It's my first Spydie, but I'm in love with it. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Mini Ritter grip with M390 steel would be a good choice for edc.

ZT 0566
ZT 0770 (aluminum handle version can be found for $125)
Spyderco Manix 2
Spyderco PM2
BM Griptillian
HK 14715
Pick your favorite, all solid choices. Plus, you're more than likely to end up with more than one. :D

Happy hunting!

Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight with s110v and Dusk Blue FRN is a good deal in that price range

Personally I just got a Benchmade HK 14715, it's pretty much a griptilian with g10. It's a completely different design but a good handle shape and a good blade shape. I highly recommend it :)

What size blade ?
Blade metal type?
Frame lock or liner lock?
Flipper or non flipper?
Assisted?
Scale type?

PM2 is a fantastic knife.
Someone mentioned the HK1400 series.. also great knife.
BM 940 is amazaing
Emersons mini-Commander or mini-15
Lots of good stuff out there. Keep an eye open in the Exchange.. some good deals about if you are patient.

I would second the Manix 2 in s110v. Prior to getting mine I was carrying a Paramilitary 2 which I loved but the Manix is so light I don't notice it. I also prefer the blade shape and steel over the Paramilitary 2.

The Manix 2 lightweight in S110V and the Native 5 lightweight in S35VN are truly great values. The Benchmade Valet in M390 is a great buy, as well.

Any of those would be a fine choice. IMO they are all in the same ballpark as far as performance goes, so which is best is more a matter of personal preference.

Ritter griptillian and then down the road you can upgrade the scales to either g10, micarta, or titanium easily. I have many knives, but love this full size griptilian. Also I'd say stick with either s30v (or higher) or m390. D2 is a great steel but doesn't have the cutting power of the 2 I listed and is hard to sharpen, and honestly 154cm is a great steel but is definitely a tad dated. I know I'm going to start a debate with that statement, but I believe it to be true. The new carbide steels have great cutting power, edge retention, and sharpening ability.

My vote says Sage 1 or 2 depending on what scale you like. My Sage 1 is so smooth it is not even funny. Also a BM 940 is a great choice. I have the 940-1 and it is awesome and i'll bet the 940 is just as smooth and awesome. The 940 is really slim and carries extremely well. A PM2 is also great if you want a larger knife and if you can find one.

This one!

Manix 2 for sure, lw with s110v. Last year I scored an m2 g10 cts-xhp. Though I love my flippers the manix is my go to workhorse. It and the spyderco bradley.
