Hello Friends,
I"m looking to pickup my first Fiddleback but need some help. I"m an avid outdoorsman and looking for a bushcraft style scandi blade. I really like sharpening those in the field with a falkniven DC-4 stone. I have seen a few scandi grinds but not many, and none today available. Any advice on how to shark a scandi or why it doesn't appear there are too many available? THanks! TIM

Hey Tim! Welcome aboard. Scandi's do come around fairly often in the Friday threads. I've managed to shark my share over time. They definitely pop up less often then the convex blades but they do come around. I believe there are several in the Flea Market currently. Also, there are a few at several of the dealer sites right now. I wouldn't say that they're super rare or anything but you definitely have to keep your eyes out for them.

Good luck in the search.

Welcome FlatlanderIA

as onedog said the scandi are more common now than they have been in the past. You just have to keep an eye out.

Which model are you looking for?

Right now I'd say I see the Handyman and Hiking Buddy offered in Scandi more then other models. I definitely waited a while for the Scandi Arete to pop up. :D

That Bushcrafter mentioned above would be perfect. Also has a great sheath. May still be available

Yeah that scandi bushcrafter would have been perfect IMO but I just sent the seller a message and he said it sold on another forum.

I would recommend a hiking buddy. Given the blade shape I think it's perfect and very effect in a Scandi grind. My next favorite is a bushcraft Karda or ED Karda. Again the blade shape is ideal.

There is a sticky thread on the forum

I'll find the link.... Here it is http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1147860-Law-Of-the-Sharks-Rules-Tips-and-Tricks

It gives great tips on how to shark knives on Friday. Also just put a Want to buy add in the flea market. One suggestion if you upgrade your membership you will have a better chance to communicate with your fellow members. Have fun in your quest for your perfect fiddleback:)

Regards
Mac
