Hello I'm trying to find a good all around fixed blade with a 5-6 inch blade that I can use for deployments and general use I have listed the knives I have had below with the reasons why I got rid of them or with the Strider BT-SS have listed FS.

BRKT Fox River: This knife was too small and I didn’t like the fact that there was no guard.

Strider BT-SS: I like this knife but not practical for general use and a little to big.

CRK Shadow IV: I loved the blade shape and size of this knife it would be perfect except for the round metal handle. I might go back to this blade if I can’t find anything better. I do know that I don’t want anything with a longer overall length of this blade.

The Gameskeeper is a bit heavier and has a short lower guard. It may be a smaller knife than you want, though.

Have you considered the 5.5" Green Beret? Same blade length and similar profile, with a more conventional handle.

Also, Ranger knives are handmade, so if one of them is almost right for you, you can talk to him about modifying it to meet your exact needs.

Thank you for your suggestions still trying to find the right blade. I was excited about the BRKT Bravo-1 that is based of the gameskeeper but I want at least a 5 inch blade. I have thought about the 5.5 inch green beret but thought I would post and get some other ideas. I also saw the review cliff did on the green beret and it wasn't nice.

I wasn't planning too he seems to only like busse thats why I'm still considering it just wanted other ideas and if I do decided on the green beret I would have to see if he could shorten the top guard a little.

Kyclone,
Just what type of deployment are you referring to. You might be better off with a good multi-tool.

I always have either my Gerber or leatherman wave on me and a folder that has done 95% of my needs on my last two deployments. I just want a fixed blade for the other times and for when I'm here in the states out hiking and hunting has a camp knife thats why I said general use blade.

I respect Cliff's opinion because he tests knives in repeatable ways to an extreme most testers won't. I am also not a fan of the GB's handle as it has to many sharp edges for my taste. I would LOVE one of his other knives though.

I would consider the Scrapyard S6 or the Swamprat M6 with a nice kydex sheath like the ones from On Scene tactical. The Rangers would be a great choice as well. I would consider a slightly smaller fixed blade though like one of the smaller Strider fixed blades or an SS4.

Here's a custom Ranger that is similiar in size and profile to the Ontario RAT. Blade is about 5.5" and very tough.

You can design you own and Ranger will build it for you at a very reasonable price.

That custom ranger looks like a nice knife. I was also think of a Fehrman Shadow scout and Fallkniven NL4 Frey.

After reading your original post.... the Gameskeeper was the first knife I thought of. Great knife. Used one, and liked it:cool:

I've got a variety of Bark Rivers, from a tiny Micro-Slither to a very large Rogue Bowie, and I like their quality and performance.

I second the motion for Kabar's Impact spearpoint. Very nice. I'd also recommend the Benchmade Nimravus too. Medium sized, sharp as a razor, good 154CM steel, good blade profile for all-around tasks, and finely crafted.
