Looking for folder storage suggestions

If you don't want to read all of this then just read the last sentence in my post in bold. :D

I apologize in advance. I'm sure this has been beaten to death but I'm fairly new to collecting knives and this forum but not that new to knives in general. There is at least some chance that something new has come out that hasn't been discussed to death.

I trying figure out the best way to store my folders that are not being carried at that moment. I only recently started buying more (and carrying something other) than the one Spyderco Endura I have carried since they were first introduced. I've never had to think about storing even 1 extra knife.

In a fairly short time (for me anyway) I now have 5 folders and I have many more on my list. A friend of mine I haven't seen in a long time used to use some kind of roll but I can't even remember where he got it. Also not sure if that is how I want to store them. I still have few enough at the moment that I do rotate and use them all so I'm trying to take that into consideration.

I just don't like having them just sitting in my safe and I am running out of room to be able to just set them in there. I want to store them somehow and then put them in the safe. I think I prefer the rolls with pockets rather than the ones I have seen that use elastic. Is there any reason I should not use one? I'm also hoping to not spend a lot if it isn't necessary. I found some various rolls with pockets for around $12-$30 that held up to 30 knives I think. Unless there is a reason I should use something else I was thinking about ordering one.

My long-winded post can be summed up with "How do you store your folders that are not currently in use?".

I know I'm getting in the same predicament of finding a place to put cutlery and multi-tools. I have been toying with getting one of those Craftsman Tool Chests, you know the big red and black units and lining it with that non slip cupboard stuff and putting my knives in there.

Plano model 3771 storage containers.

Movable dividers that are adjustable the entire length of the container, to custom fit to any knife that will fit.

I have not yet done it, but I hope to get a sears tool chest (or similar) with multiple lined drawers for storing folders. Right now, I just have a sears tool box that contains them, and its a mess.

I like that Plano set-up that Brother Lappe has and may look into that.

Welcome to BF Shan.

Most folks I know use a tackle type box like Chris said.

My collection isnt big enough to worry about it yet.

It also can't hurt to add a packet of desiccant or some other type of moisture absorbing material for long term storage.

you have more griptilians than i do knives in my entire house.... shame on me.

I toss them in a hat. Hey, it's not like they're going to break that easily. Sure, it's not pretty, but it sure is fun to dig my hand around in there and see what I'm gonna be carrying next time around.

I keep many in their original boxes on a special shelf and all my rotation EDC's in these:

The pockets are deeper than the picture. That is just to show the knives and other items you can use it for, in the pouches. In reality the pouches are deep enough to bury every folder I have. Even my ZT 0300's disappear in those wide outside pockets.

I have a old watch crystal case, kind of like a multi drawer tool box only it's like 80 years old and well built. Thats where I keep most of mine except for a few in the safe.

I like to keep my knives in original boxes, wrapping etc. so they don't get banged-up. These get put into plastic storage bins you get at Target. I sort them by bins.

For carry and usin' knives, I keep them in a drawer.

I don't have enough knives to worry about storing yet, but I would probably use a Spyderco Spyderpac. You can find them on their website and probably elsewhere.

Plano fishing tackle boxes make great storage cases.

You can even use the top portion to keep your wet stones and sharpening systems.

Thanks a lot for the replies. I have a lot of different ideas now. I probably will get a small roll for EDC rotation but use one of the other solutions for storing the ones that are retired/collectors or otherwise currently out of the rotation.
