Hi! Has anybody done a review of the Gigand Titan. I'm amazed they can offer a knive with titan handles and ATS34 blade that cheap. Is there a catch?

To my knowledge, there is no catch. Gigand is actually pretty high quality stuff. A long time ago, I got one of their Summit models for a friend. $20. 8A blade, aluminum handle, pivot adjustment tools, pretty sturdy linerlock. Pretty good deal.

I own a Titan and I can say that it's pretty good. It's a no-frills knife, none of the special locks or blade steels/types that are being thrown around alot now. It's not a banger, or a fighter, or a beater. It's a good, functional knife at a good price.

The thumb studs are pretty hefty, though, and they ate in to my thumbs in the beginning. That's the only gripe I have.

Overall they are pretty nice, but I have two semi-minor complaints.

1) The thumbstud is rather long (sticks out), and tends to catch on the pocket.

2) The clip placement makes it ride higher in the pocket than I prefer.

Neither of these is necessarily bad, depending on your preferences (e.g., the long thumbstud makes it easier to find when opening), but are enough to keep me from carrying it very much.

Note also that some Titan models don't come with ATS-34 blades.

Mine came with a nicely polished blade, a welcomed change in this age of "sandblasting".It also came VERY sharp from the box. Altogether, an excellent value.

I had thought about one of these several times also. The lack of info on the forums kept me away though. Maybe I will get one and try it out. Maybe the long thumbstuds could be used to open the blade on the pocket, kind of like the Emerson Wave (tm).

The first knife was probably used to cut stuff.

A correction on my earlier post re the thumbstuds:

The thumbstuds don't really catch on the pocket all that much, but they do catch (scratch) your hand if you reach into your pocket past the knife. More so than any other knife I have (~45).

Oh, and the lanyard pin rattles a bit. The blade *is* quite nicely polished.
