My wife currently carries around a small folding knife on her keychain. It's a $2 pos I bought at a gas station at one point, and since I'm tired of sharpening in, I was looking to buy her a new one.
Looking for something in the 1 1/2" in range, and around or under $50. I thought about a Kershaw Chive, but I didn't think the automatic opening feature would be a good thing on a keychain, to much chance of it popping open. Any thoughts would be appreciated, have a good one.

I keep a Chive on my keychain. It has a good safety mechanism and I feel
perfectly safe keeping it in my pocket. The assisted opening is easy to
use. IMO the only disadvantadge is the size (it's a little bit big for a key
ring) but a smaller knife has little if any practical use. I looked and looked
for a keychain knife before settling on the Chive and I'm happy with my
purchase. Plus, it's made in the USA which I like. The next best option may
well be a small SAK. My $0.02. Good luck, and let us know what you decide.
BTW, you may have to play with the screws on the pivot and the safety to
get them the optimum performance from the Chive. - Dttomcat

spyderco jester is my fav, but there is also the ladybug. awesome keychain kinves.

I carry a cold steel super edge on my keychain and use it more than I ever thought I would. It's not a folding knife but I think that it is easier to use since all you have to do is pull it out of its sheath.

Spyderco Ladybug with a VG10 plain blade fo $20.
Great little knife, light and well made.
Holds an edge well.

Just gave a byrd raven to my teenage daughter. $10.
It is an exact copy of the ladybug, but less quality.

Opinel keychain knife. I carry a Swisstech Utilikey on my keychain because it has tools comparable to a SAK Classic, and takes up less space on the keyring.

I 2nd the ladybug, its and awesome little cutter for its size and with serrations its hard to beat imho.
