I am looking for a top-notch production Trapper, and I am looking at a sway belly (sow belly?) design.

I really like the custom ones I have seen, especially the Don Morrow models. But they are still just a bit too much money, although I know they would be well worth it.

I was looking at the Schatt & Morgan wire tested sway belly at the AG Russell website. Does anyone have any idea how good this knife is? Is it worth the $99? Are there any other options for excellent user productions?

Wow, a sow belly trapper, you've picked a hard one there. Aside from the custom option, the only ones I can think of are the Schatt & Morgan model, and Cripple Creek.

I've only handled them, but the S & M is top notch, as far fit, finish, etc... The Cripple Creek, although out of production, is widely available on the secondary market($150-200 range). It was excellent as well.

As I think of it now, Winchester might have produced this model not to long ago also. It would be of the same quality as the S & M, I guess, because they are both Queen contract brands.

HTH:D:).

Based on the whittler I have, I would recommend Bulldog's trapper. Carbon steel blades and excellent workmanship...

I recommend anything from Queen Cutlery/Queen, Schatt & Morgan and Robeson. I have always found these to very high value knives.

Another Trapper that I would recommend is the model 5200 from Moore Maker. I have one and it is a very good knife.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Keith, that Mooremaker looks very nice.

I decided on the Schatt & Morgan File & Wire tested with ATS-34 blades. Although the knife is marketed for collection (2001, edition IV), I plan on using this thing. I really like the swaybelly design. Looks like a really solid pocketknife.

Heres an earlier run.I think I paid$50.00 for it.Green bone scales.Very nice piece.
