Looking for a high quality knife for my nephew. He is a avid duck hunter as well as deer ect... Would like a folding spring assisted blade, I think? We live in california so would have to follow CA guide lines. I know absolutely nothing about knives. And am on overload from reading on internet. Would like something of quality that will last. Also was thinking about engraving? Yes or no? Any thought and suggestions?

price range? also spring assisted and hunting knives don't really go all that well together. If you want to get him a hunting knife, get a fixed blade, if you want something for small tasks get a kershaw assisted open.
 
I'm happy with my Benchmade 585 mini-Barrage, with assisted opening. 2.94" blade, which is legal in most states. Blade looks short due to perspective. Here is a photo:
