Hi Eveyone
I need to pick up a 8" wheel for my KMG grinder, as the my 10" wheel is just a
little large for grinding folder blades. Beaumont Metal Works has the wheel for $235, but I would like to get a good quality wheel at a little better price if possible. Any suggestions/vendors would be appreciated, otherwise I will just bite the bullet and order from Rob.
BTW, I could not find any info on the search button for this. (< :
Thanks,
Jon

Jon,

I agree! Contact wheels are so expensive! I think I heard a few guys that bought from Bertie in S Africa for their KMGs. I've seen his wheels at Pop's and they look very nice and have only heard postive things about them. Chicago and Contact rubber might be a good source as they both are...and have been suppliers for the rubber on my wheels...I supply the hubs and they do the rubber. They don't have a standard wheel that will work on the KMG and will need to quote a custom for you.

When I get the wheels from them ...they run very well to normal "industry standards" but need to be tweaked to get the final smoothness and precision needed for "knifemakers standards" which is generally higher than industrial metal hogging applications.

Good luck on your search and keep us posted...I'll be glad to help if I can.

Bite the bullet and get one from Rob. You are assured that what you get will be the best you can get that way and there won't be any unpleasant surprises when you go to use it either.

Jon here is a link to a guy in SA I own several of them and his price can't be beat

Thanks to everyone for the quick response. Nathan, I really appreciate the llink for the wheels from Bertie. I have e-mailed him, and am waiting for his response.

For anyone who might need this information in the future.
Bertie,a well known knife maker in South Africa, will send the 8" inch contact wheel, bearing loaded, 1/2 arbor, 70 to 80 duro wheel, air freight included to me for $177.
Chicago Rubber will send the same spec premium wheel for $202, not including freight. Rob at Beaumont Metal, home of the KMG has the wheel for $235, not including freight.
Thanks to everyone for the help.

Jon
