Hey guys this is like my 5th post today, im very new as i mentioned before i am looking for a good survival everything type knife. Im torn between the short KABAR and the BEcker BK2? i feel the KABAR will take more damage and be better, i just want to hear some opinions from guys with expierence! also if you have another knife in mind feel free to mention it! thanks for any help!

The becker is full tang, and very tough. I used to have a kabar(fullsize) that was a pretty tough knife. The kabar has a stick tang. The Becker is tougher, the kabar is lighter.
have you seen the new kabar mark1, Ethan Becker likes them and recommends them. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/815933-New-Stuff-From-Ka-Bar
Bk2 test part 1 and 2 http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ting-the-BK2-to-the-test-so-you-don-t-have-to...

BK2 is awsome knife, great wood cutter, heavy duty but some might find it a bit big for some tasks.

The Short Kabar on the other hand isn't as good of a wood cutter. I wouldn't recommend it over the BK2.

I would consider the new Kabar MK1. It's an awsome wood cutter but weighs the same as the Short Kabar. Tomars Kabars sells these for just under $50. I bought one and I like it, more than my BK2. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/845770-My-Kabar-MK-I-is-here!

Look closely at the knife specs, besides length. Check out the weight and thickness. They are not actually very similar. The Bk2 is a beast of a knife, almost beyond overbuilt. The ka-bar while it is quite sturdy and will do many practical tasks is more of a light fighter in comparison. It really depends on what you want the knife for...

I have a short ka-bar and a Bk9... I had to grind the top guard of the ka-bar because it interfered with almost every useful grip. I love my BK9 and would buy another Becker without hesistation if i needed one.
