Hello,
I’ve always wanted to try one the 102’s but never got a round to it. I saw the other day that they made a Herotage model with wood handle and D2 steel. Any ideas where I could get one? Is the D2 a decent upgrade over 420HC?
Thanks
Bucks 420 and heat treatment is perhaps the best 'standard' steel..D2 is just a little different and 95% of users would not notice any difference in actual use. But the heart know's what it wants.

I would take Buck's 420HC over D2 any day, any time. It may not hold an edge as long as properly heat treated D2, but it takes a much better edge much more easily (D2 takes a crappy edge and holds it for a long time!). It's also way tougher. Ix-nay on the ee2-day, says rhino!
I like em both, for different reasons.
I wouldn't want a D2 110, but I appreciate a D2 fixed blade.
I keep hoping for a Vanguard with it.
Just because.
