Looking for ideas on how to carry a BK9, preferably something like a shoulder harness

I'm looking for a way to carry my BK9. I'd like something that is a stand alone device, something that does not need to ride on a belt or strap to a backpack. Something low profile and comfortable. Something that I can easily put on and take off. I was thinking some shoulder harness type thing but I don't know much about those and don't know where to start.

It would also be nice to be able to attach a Leatherman Wave and Surefire flashlight (2x CR123 6P, G2, 6PX) to the rig but that is not essential.

I was thinking of maybe rigging something up myself out of nylon straps and plastic buckles but I'd ideally buy something professionally made. I'd be willing to pay a reasonable amount for something of high quality.

Thanks.

At one point I took some paracord and wove a sling into it, then just ran the paracord through the stock sheath.

This was the woven bucket that rested on my shoulder. I carried it baldric style so this was on my right shoulder the knife was on my left hip.

I have an AZWelke kydex sheath that i just added a shoulder strap to so I can throw it over my shoulder and carry it under my left arm like a messenger bag. I can throw it on and take it off quick and easy and when I don't need it I just hang it on the back of my camp chair.

Ever seen the movie " Book of Eli " Denzel Washington. That would be my choice.

I say have one of the talented guys right here make you a nice kydex sheath with a Baldric-style adapter--then get yourself a 2 inch wide strap and janus extension pouch from maxpedition---slide the strap through the sleeve in the back of the pouch, attach it to your baldric adapter and you have enough room for a flashlight, multitool and small fire kit---

Do you have a pic of this? I know it is self-explanatory, but a pic would be cool. I am looking at getting an AZWelke kydex sheath and this sounds like a good idea.

I don't have a pic of this but I have the next best thing.

This sheath (minus the pouch)

With a strap attached to it like this. I carried it this way in the factory sheath too but the kydex is much better.

Your arm and head go through the strap just like a messenger bag would but with less slack in the strap. I have just enough room to get my arm and head through easily. This keeps the knife up near my pectoral (or in my case, moob would be more appropriate) and I can draw and sheath the knife one-handed if I have to.

Hmmmm.... I am thinking a nice woven paracord shoulder strap. I may need to go ahead and order a sheath and make that my project.

Thanks!

A paracord strap would be cool. I used the nylon strap because it's what I had laying around. It's also adjustable if I need to put it on over a heavy coat. (Or if I lose some weight)

It you are going to do a para cord thing I would suggest getting on YT and searching for para-cord gun slings. I have seen a few of these and they look pretty cool and easy to do. I watched several when I was trying to figure out a sling system for my rifle. I don't have the links any longer though, sorry.

Doc Canada(I think) carries his BK4 in something like you've described. It may take some digging, but he's posted pix of it here.

I did a quick search and found it here ( http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/552479-Becker-Machax-Porn?highlight=Machax ) on page 1. Also, see mneedham's on post 22.

You brought that one back from the dead, Murph! :D

Today, I use a woven paracord belt (seen here) using the Slatts Rescue belt technique. If you look closely you can see the belt is a 2 piecer - 1 length is the correct length to be used as a belt with the added on smaller piece which lengthens it the correct amount to be used as a Baldric. Alternatively, the shorter piece can be made out of nylon webbing giving it greater adjustability.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Slatts belt, the whole length can be unraveled (think Daisy chain) in a couple of moments, giving you access to a large amount of 550.
