I don't currently offer a dedicated hunting knife model, so I'm looking for some ideas. Post pictures of your favorite, most used, hunting knife.

I doubt I'll be hunting anytime soon but I'd grab my Straight Back Kephart or Woodcraft if I was going hunting today.

The last deer I cleaned back in 83 or 84, I used a Gerber Magnum folding hunter I got through
the North American Hunting Club.

Wish I still had that Gerber....

Last season I carried my Trapline but unfortunately did not get a chance to use it for any processing tasks, just around the cabin.

Last two deer I processed I used my Cold Steel Master Hunter in Carbon V.

Both are 4" ish drop point hunters. The Master Hunter has a bit more belly than the Trapline but similar concepts I think.

Any suggestions on posting pics besides using Photobucket?
I'd like to share some but having a hard time posting them directly from my iphone

If you want a 3rd party site, I found imgur to be the easiest to manipulate on a phone (android based).

I have always liked your take on the Canadian Belt Knife with a flat grind for game.

If by hunting knife you mean a skinner, then the old Puma skinner is a nice design.

I am sorry but posting of pics is beyond my comprehension.

However, my go to Deer Hunting knife is my Hanna's Hope with yellow handles, it is a perfect size for me. I do however carry a pointy pocket knife to make a circular cut around the anus to make things easy and clean. The blade shape of Hanna's Hope is nice for skinning duty and general field dressing.
I have used my George L. Herter/JK Handmade Bowie ( with Thumb Bump) to do a field dress couple of deer (not mine) but it is unnecessarily large for the task with it's 5" blade).

My small game knife is the HK Squirrel, which has a JK blade and a Peterbuilt handle and sheath,
It is a pointy little rascal, and it makes quick work of Squirrels, rabbits and birds.
There are pictures somewhere for both of these items if you care to look.

I do find the CRKT Onion Skinner to be interesting and may have John do a version of it. It is also of interest that CRKT discontinued this knife fairly quickly which indicates that it did not sell well,
but the incredibly ugly handle may have contributed to it's demise! John would make a much more attractive version I am sure

My very first GOOD knife was this model! It was stolen from my house by the local drug addict
and pawned.
observations:
I found it to be difficult to sharpen, I think the blade stock to be rather thick, and while I like using trailing point (upswept) skinners, they are difficult for me to re-sheath. Non the less, wish I still had mine!

I've always thought the Michigan Trail was the best model I offer for deer hunting, but I tried a special offer a while back, but no takers. Must not be many hunters here.

I'm not totally sure either, but if you post the overall length and blade length, and height of the blade, I'm sure I can find the pattern, if anyone is interested. I can tell it's an older one, I made the sheath.

Hi John-
I will take more pics tonight and post them. It makes a great hunting knife for sure. Used it last 2yrs deer hunting.

First: Am I the only one Who saw the title of this thread and read "Looking for ladies"?

Now on to the subject at hand. I think it depends on what a person's definition of "hunting knife" is.

A lot of people I know think of a big clip-point, fixed blade (Kabar, Buck 119, ect) as a hunting knife.
These are great knives, but they're all to big. I don't split rib cages or pelvis with my "hunting knife".

I want something small enough to be maneuverable and quick when field dressing a deer or cleaning a turkey. I like a short (3ish inch) blade with some belly for skinning.
For the last few years a Benchmade Hidden Canyon has fit the bill since I got it as a Father's Day gift from my kids.

Just an idea. I love throwers, knives and hawks. A triple thrower set, 13" long, 3/16" thick, no handles, symetrical dagger grind, dull edges with a pointy tip. All they'd need is a "K" on the side. When can I order John?
