Hello, this is my first post here. My name is Mike and my dad Mark was big in the custom knife world when I was a kid. Dad has passed now and I'm trying to get some info on a knife that I bought from him a few years ago.

Its a Barry Wook MKII #465. There are no markings on the knife except #465. Dad was friends with Barry when I was growing up, so I have no idea if this knife is old or newer.

It also has a REALLY TINY nic on the cutting edge of the blade towards the tip. So tiny, that its really hard to get a picture of it. There is also a small bit of pitting on the spine.

Im trying to find out how old it is, and if I have something desirable here, or a paperweight. I have 3 kids, so if this knife has any value, Ill probably sell it.

Thanks!

Here are some pics: (not sure why one of them is upside-down)

Welcome to bf.

As for the knife, I have no clue, but thats not a bad looking knife.

You cant ask -and you didnt directly ask - for a certain value of a knife with your current membership. Just so you know.

With an upgrade, its no problem.

I saw a that pattern knife by Wood at the Ornamental Metal Museum in Memphis. It was donated by the heirs of a famous collector. I have also seen it for sale at a show. Wood is famous and that's a classic pattern, sorry I can't recall the name or more details.

Thanks for the replies! I know its a MK2. Im just trying to figure out how old it is, and if the pitting and nic in the blade will effect its value much. I met Barry myself several times, but it was mostly in the early 80s when I was a small child.

That's terrible news. I didn't know Barry passed away. I was talking and writing to him before he passed. He was a gentleman.

I would recommend contacting his son-in-law Mike Irie, who is also a knifemaker, he should be able to help you.

There are a number of Barry Wood knives on eBay, including a MK2......check it out for approximate values. ;)

If there is a "#" before the 465, it's probably an early Mk2 made between 1971 and 1973. There were 2000 of them beginning with #101. The overall handle shape, blade profile and lack of Barry Wood stencil on the blade also suggest it's one of these.
