Anybody have opinions on the Corelon that Case has in some of their knives? Anybody own one or gotten the chance to handle one, I'm interested in the knives and like the look of the Corelon but wanted to ask around first.

Obligatory Pics from an undisclosed retailer,

actually not sure the middle one is a case knife, Sorry wasn't really looking when getting pics just wanted to show an example of the Corelon

*Edit* The one in the middle is a Frost Cutlery

Case and Frost have some deal together in the production of these knives,

"After two years of negotiations with W.R. Case® and Sons, Frost Cutlery has secured the exclusive licensing agreement to produce some of the most beautiful handles available. Corelon®, a handmade polymer, with no two handles alike, is a registered trademark of Frost Cutlery. Pattern tang stamps on back incorporate the number "9", designating synthetic handle material." (Again from unnamed retailer's site)

So now that more of the story is there, Any opinions or experiences?

I used to have a "Man In Black" Muskrat with Corelon scales but I sold it. The scales were held on with some kind of adhesive. If I remember correctly, the scales had whisps of black, red, and white.

It was a gorgeous knife. Very pleasing to the eye.

Any opinion on how it would hold up as an edc? How was the fit and finish?

I think it would hold up very well as long as the scales stayed put. It was a very well made knife. Good snap on both blades with no blade play and nicely sharpened out of the box. Fit & finish were excellent as I recall. The scales were flush with the bolsters and liners. I think it could have held its own among any of the better quality Case knives I have owned or handled.

I did not use the knife and I have no idea how well the adhesive that holds the scales on would hold up under use.

Ok thanks, I am truly getting into the idea of edcing a traditional folder and these are awesome looking knives. thanks for the input.

I've seen & handled a number of Case knives with the Corelon handles and they remind me a lot of the swirled acrylic handles that GEC puts on some of their line. Both feel like smooth plastic which makes sense. Have no idea how it'd hold up to pocket carry, but I'd imagine it's durable stuff.

Whats the verdict out for Hen and Rooster knives? I like this knife a lot but am unfamiliar with the brand. (sorry ill be asking a lot of questions around here for a bit)

I'm no chemist but I would like to think that corelon would not have the same shrinkage problems as the older celluloid did.

I have a couple of knives (Case & Buck) re-handled in stuff call 'Mica Pearl', which I'm guessing might be same/similar stuff under a different name/trademark. Same colorful, swirly, irredescent character. I do like the fact that each piece is different in color & swirl patterns. Haven't used any of my examples very hard, but I don't think durability will be an issue (real 'abuse' notwithstanding). I think Hen & Rooster has been using something like this for quite a while, and haven't heard of any quality issues there, either.

Nice thing about modern synthetics & plastics, seems like across the board the vast majority are much more stable & durable than those of 20+ years ago. I wouldn't worry too much about this one, especially since Case is building it into their own products, even if it's an SFO. Still covered under their warranty, I'm sure.
