specifically::: Since there is no stop pin, under heavy cutting is there blade play. Does a strong grip dislodge the tab stop? How is the lock up?

With a Tab lock, is there any advantage from a reliability standpoint...I mean it seems that by asking the lock to act as a stop pin, there is going to be accelerated wear on the lock.

With a Tab Stop, it seems that the "stop" tab seat would have to be perfectly cut to avoid play and over time the "crispness" of the tabstop seat would wear leading to play....TIA:)

I can only comment from the point of view of the KaBar Dozier Thorn. It has the tab-lock. My Thorn exhibits no blade play in any direction and locks up very solidly. It's a relatively small knife so it has not been subjected to heavy-duty use. With the improving weather in my neck of the woods (Thank God:rolleyes: ), my Thorn will get some more vigorous use. The overall quality gives me great confidence and I'm sure the genuine article from Dozier would not dissappoint,

Hope this helps to some extent.:)

As for the Tab Stop folder, I have used one and not even a "white knuckle" sabre grip will dislodge the lockup. With forefinger tightly wedge up against the lock and thumb bearing down hard on the blade spine area just forward of the "tab", the blade does not move at all. Understand that this model is not geared for "tactical" applications, even with its modern appearances. But for utility purposes. With that in mind, under "normal" use the lockup will not fail or become compromised. Unless one purposely moved the Tab Stop mechanism over to the left with the thumb. Or with the possibility (only slight :) )of improper fit.

If the "framelock" is fitted properly, allowing enough room for wear into/ upwards of the blades tang, then potential bladeplay from extended use is not likely to occur.

The latest bunch that appeared at the March NYC show at Bob and Linda Doziers table had very nicely beveled and smoothed out Ti slab handle perimeters. They would pass the bar of soap feel test!

Good luck with your Tab Stop folder!

The Tab Stop doesn't work in quite the same way as a liner or frame lock. There is a notch in the back of the blade tang that the stop fits into, so it only travels a certain degree across the tang.

Kevin Martin, formerly of BF, tested the Thorn in Tactical Knife a few months ago. He said it was indeed a very heavy duty design. I was surprised at the abuse he put it through. He used full power thrusts stabbing it into all kinds of material. It never failed.
