I know Schrade made the Colonies knives for Parker Frost in 1978 but I have seen a Nathan Hale stockman advertised as a Schrade made also. Now I'm noticing a few other Parker Frosts that look like Schrades. So once again I ask you to open your vault of Schrade knowledge and tell me about the Parker Frost knives made by Schrade. Please and thanks.

The information I have is that the Thirteen Colonies made in 1976, Trail of Tears, Large Clasp made in 1977, and Custer's Last Fight, Large Clasp made in 1977 were all made by Schrade for Parker-Frost Cutlery. I saw something on the Nathan Hale not to long ago and am trying to dig it back up!! At the time it wasn't something I was looking for, so I just kind of by passed it. You've also got info that the Thirteen Colonies were made in 1978??

Schrade made the American Eagle Bi-Centennial Series in 1976. The set included five knives, Patrick Henry, Nathan Hale, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. I don't think they were mde for Parker-Frost, tho.. Someone else may have more info....

Knifewife sold a bunch of Parker-Frosts last night that included Nathan Hale and several others. Some of the knive that were not listed as made by Schrade sure looked like they were. Thats what got me wondering.

There was the "Mink" Trapper (#1978-4) - 3 different models with Red jigged bone, Green jigged bone and Brown jigged bone handles.

I am waiting for a Mink Pen knife to arrive I bought the other day. It's a Parker Frost with smooth bone handles. I saw some trappers and stockmans the other night for sale that looked like schrades. No red white and blue though.

Schrade also made these for Parker Frost, they are similar to the Schrade IXL's except they have 3 blades instead of the 2 blades on the IXL's:

The American Eagle set was made for Parker, it was available individually or as a set mounted on a faux wood plaque with a clear plastic cover

I bought a couple of those 13 Colonies knives, to add some interest to my Schrade display! Here is one, with the pile side tang stamp showing the connection to Schrade. They are "collector" style knives, sharp edged and clunky, compared to nice user knives! I'm glad I have examples, but I won't buy any more!!

Charlie,
I thought that tang samp looked familiar, so I did some rumaging and found this one of a set of three armed forces bicentennial stockmen that was put out in 1975, I think by Imperial. Of course I couldn't get them as clear as your awesome scans::grumpy: :

Sorry it took me a while to get back to this, Eric. The tang stamps look identical on the front! What's on the other side of the master blade??
I held the blades up to the image, and they look like they were blanked by the same dies! Mine is just a shade under 4"long. How long is your knife?
Of course Imperial and Schrade were under the same umbrella by the time these knives were made.
Strong DNA evidence that they came down the same "line"!

Waynorth,
Same length - 3 15/26" to be exact. The only difference in the blades is that the swedge on yours is filed. Mine has the "forged" look. There's nothing on the other side of the master blade, or any of the other blades for that matter.Someone else in this forum has the identical set, but I'll be darned if I can remember who, think I'll have to go back to the archives. Speaking of Imperial, Have you seen the ones tang stamped IK Co ?
Eric

I've seen some inexpensive knives with IK Co, Eric. Which ones are you referring to?

I'd just run across this one on Ebay- #130047178738, nothing special (well actually it IS a nice sowbelly!), but I'd never seen the tang stamp until today.

That's a nice knife!! I hope one of the BF people wins it.
Then maybe we'll get some more pics!

Right now I'm trying to scrape together a bunch of my oddball stuff, or styles I'm really not interested in collecting, to sell so I can buy more Schrade/Canal Street myself. I'm finding myself leaning more towards the Schrade-Walden and before vintages, although I can't seem to pass up a good commemorative/limited edtion from any era. In that vein I'm waiting on a beautiful customized 5OT from Mr Williams himself. I don't think I'm allowed to open it 'till Christmas though :(
Honestly if I keep this up, I may not have anyone to open a present from, this really is a disease!!:)

I don't know the whole story of Mr. Williams. Is he a cutler from Schrade?? Still doing it?? Or is he a collector who has some interesting knives?

I think the older knives are the better investment. I find them more satisfying also. They were made to use, so their functionality is part of their beauty.
They feel better in the hand, and in the pocket. These 13 Colonies knives sewed it up for me; they have square sharp edges everywhere, and are basically made to look at.
Merry Christmas! Heh heh!
