My father gave me an axe recently. It's the only axe I ever remember him having. The handle has been broken for probably 10+ years... Used and abused lol. When he gave it to me he told me it used to belong to my grandfather. Here are some pictures after initial rust removal. The logo isn't clear and I can't tell anything about it.

Here is a close up of the mark:

There is also a clear and distinct "C25" stamped on the other side of the head.
On what is left of the handle there is a 9 digit stamp [400 005 724].

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

the red paint and the C25 in the middle of the eye tells me its a later true temper woodslasher, probably as late as the 70's or 80's. they are decent quality axes, they dont have the best steel or temper, but they will get work done and are easily sharpened. the Woodslasher was their budget line, geared towards homeowners and infrequent users. they are better than most, or pretty much all axes you will find in stores today.

yours looks like it has pretty flat cheeks, but its hard to tell from the angles. if you fix the steep grind, it will give you many years of use. that is as long as it was not heavily ground on with a grinder in its life.
