This knife was recently given to me and I was trying to find out some information on it. I just happened to stumble on a pic of one of David Farmer's knives and I now believe this is one of his based on the maker's mark. I am not familiar with these types of knives. Can anyone tell me anything about it? What might the blade material be? What do you call the handle wrap, braided part, etc. Thanks.

Love the knife! The braided guard thing is called a Turk's Head Knot. Blade looks forged due to the marks left towards the spine half of the blade. Which carbon steel? Who knows. I'm sure it'll be good though.

Good luck with it.

edited to add: Oh and ofcourse obviously the handle has sort of a Japanese style to it by the way it's wraped at the thong hole. Infact I would probably bet some money on the knifemaker taking some inspiration for the handle from legendary knifemaker Phil Hartsfield.

The handle appears to be epoxy soaked hemp and the turk head looks like leather cord or some other material. Isn't David Farmer still a member on here? Maybe look him up and ask him directly about the knife. Nice little edc knife.

Thanks for the kind words in your email

That knife is forged L6. The handle is leather underlay with a cotton cord that has been dyed and impregnated with epoxy. The Turkshead knot is leather cord and epoxy impregnated as well. I hope I have answered your questions. Happy Cutting.

Thanks David. Guess I should have gone directly to the source from the beginning.
