Looking for info

I was given this sword from a friend who moved and didn’t want to pay shipping charges on it.Can anyone tell me by looking at the pictures if this sword can possibly be authentic?sorry I don’t know how to add pictures to forum

is it a katana? if so take the handle off and see if it has a signature and show it then yes , if not a katana then see if it has a makers mark and take a picture upclose
