Ive owned many Chris Reeve knives from 1999-2014. Had to sell of my collection in 2014 for funds but want to pick one up. I have been out of the loop though for the last 10+ years. I want to pick up a large folder. Not sure if anything has changed since Chris retired as far as quality and design changes. Which current model would you recommend?

edited to change Chris Reeve retired and still alive and well.

I don't believe that Chris Reeve passed...but he no longer runs CRK.

I like 'em all, but currently it would be between the Inkosi and Zaan for me...though I love my Sebenzas as well.

Mine and many others still prefer the Sebenza 21 to the 31, but it mostly comes down to preferences for minor details.

If I was buying a current model new from a retailer, I'd probably go with a plain jane Inkosi with an insingo blade.

I recently purchased a large PJ Insingo 31 Sebbie in Magnacut to edc. Thin, light and very practical.
An absolutely beautiful knife for daily pocket carry.

I really love the size and shape of my large 31 Insingo. It's a bit different than the Inkosi version.

I like the Sebenza Insingo better, and the Inkosi Drop Point better. Umnumzaan reigns for the tanto.

For OP, the Sebenza is the most popular. It depends on other factors. If you want more graphics or inlay options, go Sebenza. If you want a slightly thicker stock and more user adjustability, go Inkosi.

PJ Inkosi insingo is my go to most of the time. As far as changes, the Sebenza 31 model has the ceramic ball lock interface like the other models and the clip is angled like the Inkosi. The Inlays have changed which is pretty obvious at first glance, but they offer blasted scales with the wood Inlays now too. They offer a glass blast that has a slightly different look than the sandblast and shows less snail trails. They also recently came out with a new clip style that is titanium MIM.

I prefer 21’s, but you said current production, so I’d go large PJ 31, and I’d buy it used and save some cash. Pick a blade shape and call it good!

You know ... like opinions man ... I prefer the 21, but with the 21 being retired my personal preference would be an Inkosi or Umnumzaan over a 31.

Arguably there have not been any qualitative improvements in CRK's in the last 10 years, you can get a "replacement" for your old favorite on the secondary market.I sometimes carry a "P" , what's the point if you have it, and never carry it??Of course I have 21s, 31's etc that make the cut occasionally, all larges.

I'd agree with the others that I still love the 21, as well as the Umnumzaan. When you say large, do you mean the same as a large Sebenza, or are you looking for something larger? Because if you want larger than what Chris Reeve makes, the large Spartan Harsey Folder might scratch that itch. It's not at the level of CRK's quality, but it has a similar overall feel. The guys behind it trained in the CRK shop and implemented some of the lessons they learned, plus it's designed by frequent CRK collaborator William Harsey. Another development since you've been out is the Arno Bernard iMamba, which is kind of like a middle size between the large and small Sebenza. They're friends with CRK and are putting out knives that would appeal to the CRK crowd, with what I believe to be even more handwork and refinement.
