i'm looking into getting a new knife first thoughts were a randall but after finding out about the 4 year wait have changed my mind. looking for something comparable for now knife would be primarily for hunting.looking for something with a stag handle preferably with crown and older looking in style.
have considered marbels but can't find one with a stag handle. dosent have to be custom btu would definetly like something everyone dosent know where to get. any help greatly appreciated

Take a look at AG Russell's site and sign up for his catalogue if you haven't already. His catalogue is one of the few things I look forward to getting in the mail (all the other mail I receive are bills :)). AG carries many blades that fit your description, including Randalls ready to ship, he should have some Marbles in stag too.

I think Nordic Knives carries a pretty good selection of Randalls, you'll pay a premium, but can get the knife in a few days.

Lots of makers here on the forums too, check out the "For Sale by Maker" forum. I'm always impressed by the quality of some of the forum makers and generally their prices are very good.

yeah i'm still waiting for the a.g. russell catolog to get her and nordic knives
OUCH! i want a randall but not that bad i'm willing to wait the 4 years in that case lol

I have a Marbles Hunter from 2001 when Mike Stewart still worked there that has always reminded me of a Randall. It is a nice knife with the classic shape and handle I always think of with a Randall.

Go on ebay and see if you can find an older stag handled Blackjack 1-7.....I have a very high opinion of the early Blackjack knives....having owned both them and Randalls

I would suggest looking at the Bark River knives. MIke Stewart is their big cheese. They hand grind and are very nutty about heat treatment, blade strength, and sharpness. They are one of the few to use the very sharp but not easy to do "convex" grind.

Both Randall and Bark River are very strong and tough knives but I bet if a comparison test were done the Bark River would be the winner.

I dont know how fond you are of ebay but they have loads of Randall knives, if your willing to pay a price. I dont think there is a substitute for a Randall, if you have ever held one you will know what i mean. Blackjack and Bark River both make good knives and have some of the same styles that Randall uses as was already mentioned. But if you have the money and are comfortable with ebay you can pretty much pick one out.

How about Ruana knives as a suggestion?

When I lived in Florida we'd see Randall's knives at almost every gun show we went to - usually priced around $200 - $300. Might be one more place to check out.

Depends on what kind of Randall model you want. If its a smaller, hunting type blade rather than a fighting knife, then go with an older Blackjack Woodsman or Trailguide. If its a fighter, then try an older Blackjack 1-7 or 1-5, or even a HALO. They turn up on Ebay quite often and the cost is considerably less than a Randall. Randalls are nice though.
